I’m soon met by another family instead this time it was a family of geese. They were making their way down the stream—little ones following behind—and into a humongous algae pond. I follow swiftly behind them; I jog to keep up with their paddling. I make it past a small clearing from all the shrubbery and bamboo to get a good look at them swimming. Single file, they glide across the water like a tiny unit; This sweet moment doesn’t last long. Out of nowhere, this large golden beast makes a huge splash that startles the family of geese. Momma goose soon turns into momma bear and pounces on whatever caused the startle. Me being the curious monkey that I am, went to go check out the commotion. Eyes darting about, I find a peculiar set of smooth stepping stones that’ll take me out into the water. Hopping from stone to stone, I make my way closer to the family of geese. Finally I get close enough to take a good look at the culprit ,and to my surprise it was a goldfish except this goldfish was ten times bigger than anyone I’ve seen. Soon I realized this wasn’t a goldfish but a Koi fish; he was even bigger up close. I wasn’t sure if they are omnivores, but they could have easily swallowed one of the baby geese whole. Thankfully the momma goose was there so I didn’t have to find

They pulled up the line to find an enormous fish on the hook. The eldest hunter leaned over the hole to thank the spirits for the food. He had just finished speaking when, to their surprise, the water spoke, “No thanks needed” it said. Then a gigantic sand shark flopped onto the ice. The three hunters licked their lips out of hunger. It spoke, “Please do not eat me, for I am the reason you have this fine fish.” Then it jumped back into the water. Day after day the hunters came back again and again to have mounds of fish dumped upon them. One day the sand shark asked for something in return. “I ask only one thing, that you make me the symbol of your tribe.” it said. His love was a never-ending feeling for her. "One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: that word is love." Henry probably had such a hard time with his wife's death that he blocked it out of his mind and started to believe that she really was still there, and that she still loved him. The quote above describes why Henry had so much love for his deceased wife; it was because her death put so much pain and weight on his life. Henry was a gold miner. He came out to California to find happiness in wealth. Henrys wife loved him so much that she came out to California with him, and made an old nasty cottage a home. She was probably happy without the gold. The reason she was happy was because she was in love with Henry. She was a nineteen-year old newlywed woman who was in love. Being a nineteen-year old she missed her family. So when the newlyweds were settled in their cabin she went to visit her family. She was ambushed by a group of Indians on the way and was killed. How does a positive attitude help avoid conflict? According to Remez Sasson,”It brings optimism into your life, and makes it easier to avoid worries and negative thinking… you see the bright side of life” (Sasson). This shows that seeing the bright side of life will make all worries and negativity dissipate during tough challenges. During World War 2, many people used the method of positivity to endure the misery. From Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank tries to stay positive while in hiding. It was exceedingly challenging getting around without getting captured by the Nazi. Another novel is Dear Miss Breed: True Stories of the Incarceration During World War ll and a Librarian Who Made a Difference from Joanne Oppenheim. One of the many letters is from Louise Ogawa, and she, like all the other Japanese, had to go to an internment camp. To distance herself from the hardships, she tried to stay positive and think of the positive. Having a positive attitude is the best way to respond to conflict, especially during horrendous situations like World War 2.…

After a short morning of waking up extremely early we realized it was finally time we got to see the slaughterhouse! Curren and I were pumped and once again could not stop thinking about what’d it be like seeing a moray eel. Once we got in the car it was about a 15-minute drive. It felt like it took 5 minutes because everywhere we looked you could see something fascinating. When we finally arrived we witnessed a jungle. It was full of bright green plants and large palm trees and coconut trees. As we walked through the sweaty forest we came upon something odd. We found a militia of jungle chickens! There was a pack of about 20 or so. They were all running around forging for food. Once we strolled past the squawking chickens we felt the humid get heavier. We knew we were close to the water. Soon we confronted a river that lead right to the…

The difficult journey of the Pilgrims began when they left England for Leiden, Holland. At the time, King James required all citizens to follow the Church of England. However like many separatists of the time, the Pilgrims wanted to worship as they pleased (4). After many years in Holland, the Pilgrims decided that it was once again time to move. While Holland was religiously tolerant, the country required the Pilgrims to work difficult jobs that were hard on their bodies. In addition to health concerns, the Pilgrims were afraid that the younger members of their congregation were losing touch with their English heritage. They felt like embarking on a journey to the New World would let them establish a community with their own religion and English culture (17).…

It’s my day off; we’ve landed at the island of Tristan D’Acunha. It’s a beautiful island with perfect weather conditions. It felt good to finally be back on dry land. Our ship has run out of food so I volunteered to go look for food. We had men fishing, men hunting, and men looking for food that’s been growing. I was searching for grown food when I came across a spring of fresh water. I knew we were running low on fresh water so I ran back to the ship, brought some help and hauled tons of drinking water to the ship. When we got back the captain had our meal ready, it wasn’t much but at least it was something. All we had was fish to eat but there was plenty enough there to feed the crew. The fish was gray in color with a bunch of black dots on the upper half of the body. Coming down the side of the fish looked to be a reddish almost pink stripe.…

After hours of sitting out on the dock, my cousins and I were getting tired. So, we decided to see who could catch a fish first, and then we’ll be able to go inside. It took us another hour in order for one of us to catch a fish. During that hour, there was a lot of frustration and yawning. Since we all gave up on trying to find a manatee, we began to bring in all of the plates that were once filled with food and the fishing poles. But, as soon as we started to get everything together, we heard a noise coming from the water that sounded like something was breathing. Well, to our surprise, that was the sea cow we were hoping to see. The sky around us was too dark to see near us, and the tiny lanterns on the dock didn’t help too…
