Although coming up with similarities between the two proved to be a mind boggling task, I found several similarities. One of them is that both the book and the movie provide entertainment. Reading a book doesn’t shrivel up the brain like watching a movie would do. Our minds are restricted when watching something; movies do all of the thinking and imagination for us. When someone reads, their brain is exercising from all the thinking that’s happening. Instead of staring at the computer screen, reading increases one's vocabulary and writing skills. Whenever I stumble over an unfamiliar word, I jot it down, look it up, and add it to my mental dictionary.
Overall, the main difference is that a movie cannot be a book. There are those specific details in books that get left out in the movies. Watching a movie rather than reading the book is like eating a hollowed out apple pie with no filling. All the good stuff is missing.
