Sources of data include newspapers, journals, textile journals, research reports. Articles in the newspapers and journals appropriate to the subject have also been examined in detail.
We have been listening in news for the past 4 years that the textile industry which used to be the backbone of Pakistan is not growing rather have gone on a declining stage. This study will focus on the garment industry which accounts for 55% of textile industry in 2011. The share of garment industry in textile exports is 30% and it employ 2 million people in 2010.
In a research article namely “Faisalabad textile industry suffering” reported on 1st APRIL 2013 by DAWN staff that textile industry has been facing huge annual losses for the last four years. Despite massive production of crop during that period the industry was unable to utilize the crop for value-added production and the government was unable to develop a long term strategy to tackle the energy crisis (said chairman PTEA).further the chief of Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) maintained that, “the export oriented textile sector has been facing lots of problems especially in meeting deadlines of exports. At the moment when the industrial production is registering negative growth and exporters are facing severe difficulties in dealing with foreign buyers, the increase in gas load shedding would leave them with no option but to close their units”.
On 8th April 2013 it has been reported by DAWN staff that power distribution companies in Punjab have decided to cut supplies to the textile industry from 6pm to midnight every day for an indefinite period.
