Latar Belakang Perusahaan
McDonald’s Corporation merupakan jaringan restoran cepat saji terbesar di dunia, yang melayani 47 juta pelanggan setiap hari. Produk dasar yang dijual McDonald’s adalah ayam, kentang, burger, dan softdrink. Sebagian besar restoran McDonald’s dilengkapi dengan tempat bermain anak-anak dan ruangan yang didesain dengan nuansa anak-anak.
Setiap restoran McDonald’s dapat dioperasikan secara franchise, afiliasi, maupun dioperasikan oleh manajemennya sendiri. Pendapatan perusahaan dapat diperoleh dari hasil penyewaan tempat, royalti, dan fee yang dibayar oleh franchisees sebanyak perolehan operasi restoran tersebut.
Bisnis makanan ini didirikan pertama kali di San Bernardino, California, pada tahun 1940 oleh Dick dan Mac McDonald. Mereka memperkenalkan “Speedee Service System” pada tahun 1948 dengan menetapkan prinsip restoran fast-food modern. Maskot asli McDonald’s merupakan pria denga topi koki diatas hamburger berbentuk kepala yang dinamai “Speedee”. Nama “Speedee” akhirnya diganti menjadi Ronald McDonald pada tahun 1963.
Franchise McDonald’s pertama kali dimiliki oleh Ray Kroc di Des Plaines, Illinois pada tanggal 15 April 1955, hingga kemudian Kroc membeli tidak hanya sembilan restoran McDonald’s brothers tetapi juga equity McDonald’s dalam perusahaan dan menjadikannya mendunia dengan aktivitas ekspansi yang cepat, serta menjadikannya terdaftar dalam pasar saham publik pada tahun 1965. McDonald’s Kroc akhirnya lebih berhasil daripada McDonald’s brothers asli yang pada saat ini hanya tinggal monumen.
Manajemen McDOnald’s terus mengembangkan perusahaan dengan cara memaksimalkan penjualan dan keuntungan dari restoran yang ada, dan menambah jumlah restoran baru, serta memperbaiki keuntungan internasional.
Ray Kroc melandasi kerajaan bisnisnya dengan prinsip Kualitas, Pelayanan, Kebersihan, dan Nilai. Kroc juga membangun tujuan yang nyata dan praktek operasi yang spesifik untuk menggapai visinya.
