The increase in food prices was the main reason for the rise in the inflation rate, as food items accounted for 34.9 per cent of the weight in the overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket. Increase in the prices of controlled imported essential items such as sugar, cooking oil and flour was roughly 20.0 per cent. Among the non-food sub-groups, the price increase for miscellaneous goods and services and medical care and health expenses, had together accounted for 7.5 per cent of the weight in the consumer basket.
