Meagan Wilder: A Short Story
The summer I spent with her was beautiful, every day was precious. We always spent time nestled up on the couch; it was something special and it was better than any beach trip or pool party that everyone was participating in. The summer of love may have been in 1967, but with her it was in 2016. She had a touch that was as warm as hot chocolate and her skin was as smooth as silk her hair was as wavy as the earths many rivers. Her eyes were beautiful and a lovely dark brown. I was in the presence of a Goddess, and her name was Meagan Wilder. She was 5’7 and the best thing I had ever seen walking in a sundress and sandals.
To see her in sundresses was a sight to behold I remember begging her to wear them every chance she could just because I loved the way it fit her. She sported a long olive green sundress which was my favorite it stopped a few inches above the ankles and didn’t show too much or too little, leaving few things to the imagination. Meagan never liked to look bad she loved make up she didn’t care if it was a family reunion or a

Her mom is her best friend and anyone who attempts to come in between that may be in for a rude awakening. Meagan and her mother have been inseparable since her birth. When she almost lost her mother she was very distraught. Her mom was in and out of the hospital daily for many months and there were days where it looked like she wouldn’t make it. As stressed as she was she continued to stay strong and continued to stick by her mother’s side , even when things took a turn for the worst. It hurt her because the thought of going to sleep and not knowing if her mother would be there the next morning frightened her. For her to fight through was just astonishing. She continued to stay strong and to pray even on the worst of days she would never break. Every day her mother was in the hospital was a test of her

In Zora Hurston’s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, we get a look into the life of an African American woman who faces difficulties because of her race and sex. African American women at that time were at the bottom of society. They could not voice their opinion or express their ideas. Their job was to work and do what they are told. They were neither respected nor viewed as valuable to society. In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie Crawford, despite her skin color and gender, is determined to achieve her goals. She goes on a journey of self-realization and is able to find herself in a few different ways. One way she approached the journey is by challenging the men in her life that are dominating and trying to control her. Another way she tries to find herself is through romance and sexual desire. She wants the freedom to love whoever she wants and be loved by them. She wants the type of love that is real and not controlling. Janie spends many years trying to find the love she desires from the men she marries. She goes through three relationships that test her strengths and ability to love. Lastly she will be able to find herself by finding her space. In most of her relationships she is prevented from exploring…

Looking back to the class of 1941, the year I graduated I now see that I was an immature 18 year old that had no idea what to do in life. I had always thought I knew where I wanted to go the whole time, but now I see there was someone anchoring me to the small town of Pebbles, Pennsylvania, and that someone was no other than Ariel Sacator. Ariel was the most outstanding young woman in Shores County. I had the largest crush on her ever since primary school, and she had one on me. We were made for each other, and everyone in Pebbles knew it too. There was only one issue with Ariel and I: I didn’t believe in love. Everyone in Pebbles was at least on their 2nd or 3rd spouse, which didn’t give me much comfort, knowing I was most likely doomed…

I wanted to be there be in the Florida sun and feel what Joe had been talking about for the last week. He had told me and mom that when we reach Florida you can taste to oranges in the air and smell the ocean for miles away. Mom sat in the front seat, she was beautiful, the envy of the whole town all the men stared at her as she walked by. She is tan, skinny, and toned, her long blonde hair tumbled down her back in perfect curls almost making the effect of a waterfall. The way she carries herself, the way she could light a cigarette with one swift motion. Then there was Joe, he reminds me more of a Ken doll, he had big muscle that showed through his shirt and he had short hair from the war together they were like beauty and the beast. Then there was me people always told me I was beautiful but until last summer I never notice that when people said I was beautiful they just lumped me together with me mother, it kind of went like “ Sure your beautiful kido, look where you came…

I want to tell myself everything that I wish I would have known sooner; however, I never do. Although it is a painful wound that seeming will never close, I do not wish to change the past. Everything happens for a reason, and I do not want to put my own selfish desires, before God’s plan. As I talk to the young man, I pretend to be someone else. I go by the name Jon. I listen and remember as he pours out his heart to me, like he always does when I have this dream. “So, Jon, have you ever been in love?” With a smirk on my face, I know exactly where this conversation is going. It used to hurt to talk about Anne. At first, I couldn’t even bring myself to have the conversation, but now, it is my favorite. “Do you mean with a woman, or myself?” Shmuel leans back, balancing his chair on its two back legs and laughs, “Don’t play with me old man.” Shmuel’s words are playfully cruel. His defiance and rebellion brings back vivid memories of when he was young, playful, and dumb. I neatly fold my hands together on the table before us, and wait. I listen to all he has to say about the love of his life, Anne. He talks about her fiery red hair that matches perfectly with her attitude, about the freckles on her nose, and about the way she sometimes snorts when she laughs. He tells the story of how he took her boating on their first date and how the boat had flipped over. Shmuel had thought that the date was ruined, but to his…
