MEANINGFUL USE 2 Meaningful use is when using certified electronic health record technology to improve quality, safety, efficiency, and reduce health disparities. Electronic health record is patient's history, that is maintained by the provider over time, and may include all of the key administrative clinical data relevant to that person's care under a particular provider, including demographics, progress notes, problems, and their medications. The CMS “states that only “credentialed medical assistants” are authorized to enter medication, laboratory, and radiology orders into the electronic health record and have such entry count toward knowing the meaningful use requirements of the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. This rule does apply to all the stages.” (aama-ntl.org) “Credentialing for a medical assistant must come from an organization other than the organization employing the medical assistant.” (nchch.org) The way to get the credential for a medical assistant to be certified or this, they have to take a test and be able to pass it. A CMA who is not a credentialed medical assistant in is not following the CMS rule. The CMA incounters the CMS definition of “credentialed medical assistant” and does not need anything else to be able to enter orders into the EHR and have such entry count toward meaningful use.
Meaningful use can affect patients in a direct positive way. It gives them access to their health records. With meaningful use it also gives patients information to collaborate with their
