Measuring Social Media Impact

Best Western is a well-known, family oriented hotel chain. They have loyal customers, but like all other hotels they have to goal for new customers. With a lot of competition in the hospitality industry it is important to keep their loyal customers and to build new customers. Best Western does this by actively using social media as a tool to engage their customers and potential customers. Out of all the social networks that they have, Best Western is most active on Twitter. They have 63,600 followers on Twitter and have tweeted 10,100 times. They engage their visitors on Twitter by retweeting many of their tweets and hosting contests. Although many contests ask for hashtags, I have not seen anything related to Best Western trend. While Best Western is more active on Twitter, their Facebook is also actively used and spears to be more used by customers. On Facebook they have 1,057,009 likes, 2,921 are talking about them, and 622,462 were here. They engage people on Facebook by replying back to comments made and have small contests like Travel Trivia Tuesday.
Best Western has also had some negative and positive comments made on Facebook about their company. Nearly every time I have seen comments of this nature, Best Western has responded in some form. In most cases, they either try to resolve the complaint or they thank the person for a compliment. Sometimes on compliments they simply like the post. This is another way that Best Western engages people on their social media. Best Western also has the blog youmustbetrippin.com. This is another social platform they actively use. They post on it at least twice a week. They mainly blog about places you can go on vacation and tips for your vacation, but sometimes there may be blogs of a different nature posted. Although there are some posts off topic most of the time Best Western blogs about travel.
On the blog, Best Western does not seem to get a lot of response, but they still try to engage people in their blogs. They do this by simply posting things that may interest different people and contests. Some of the contests that Best Western offers, asks those interested to go comment on their blogs. Instagram is another social medium that Best Western actively uses. Best Western has 1,167 followers on Instagram. They do not use it daily, but do use it at least once a week. Although they do not use it daily they still attempt to engage their followers by replying back to comments.
On YouTube, they only have 971 subscribers and 181 posts. They also do not post daily on YouTube, but when they do post they post about many different things. Their posts range from Indie films to travel tips. Their most popular YouTube post was the 2014 Spring Promotion that was added four months ago and has had 585,320 views. Best Western also has a Pinterest. On Pinterest they have 2,149 followers and 1,279 pins. They only post about travel. They have some boards that are suggested destinations for certain types of year like summer or specific holidays. While others are designated for things to do in certain areas that can range from states to different countries. Finally, the other boards are for specific types of vacation that can range from beach to romantic vacations. They engage people on Pinterest by repining, liking, and commenting back when there is a comment. Best Western’s last social media platform is Google Plus. On here they have 2,661 followers and have had 1,113,125 views. They are also active on here, but not as active on here as they are on Twitter and Facebook. They engage their viewers by commenting back and hosting contests. I consider Best Western to have a high ROI. I believe their ROI to be high because while they are more active on certain social media sites, they are active on all of their social media platforms. Also, while on their social media they do not simply post advertisements, they post things that will draw the attention of viewers. They also engage their viewers and respond in most cases when there is a comment or a post on their social media.

Social networking. Facebook and Twitter aren’t even close to played out yet. Consumers can increasingly “like” or follow a favorite retailer and get discounts or tips on deals. JCPenney is using Facebook to actually sell goods and more than 12 million consumers “like” Victoria’s Secret on Facebook as of last month (March), making it the most popular retailer on the site (its Pink brand ranks No. 2, according to the ChannelAdvisor Facebook Commerce Index). That’s an active population of customers reaching out and requesting information from the retailer. And social shopping is just getting started, says Jim Okamura, managing partner at Okamura Consulting, a group specializing in online retail. “There’s evidence (that Facebook offers) a good return on investment and there are a lot of retailers that haven’t done anything yet,” he says. “This is going to be the year of Facebook testing.…

Primark post every day and sometimes they post multiple times in a day and this is good because the followers will get notified and then the brand will be on their mind. Primark post good quality images like Costa and Microsoft but sometimes Primark’s posts are a little confusing because they post a picture then they leave a caption including a price but it is not always clear as to what it is in the picture they are selling because there is no indication. A good thing that Primark does on Facebook is that on some posts they leave a link that directs you to other social media pages such as their Instagram page. Both Costa and Microsoft do not do…

20 that social media will be a key determinant of what local stores carry in the future. "We're analyzing social information from the neighborhood area of each store to figure out how the interests of that community should dictate what we carry in that store," he said. (Jack Neff October 03, 2011) Not only are the emails a new program but now every Walmart store has its own local Walmart Facebook page that is control by store management. That mean the department managers in bakery can post pictures of new cakes they are making. Zone managers of produce can snap picture of fresh dragon fruit. This also allows for assistant manager and store managers to see what the customer think about their stores. I know I use to see people posting about my lines being too long in the store so I hire no cashiers and at peak times I also jump on a register to help the customer love seeing me at the front line help. Advertising Light Beer

Our group decided to focus on light beer that is targeted to mainly college students. Since our clients are college students, we wanted to relate to their preferences of mainly inexpensive beer. We agreed to focus on competitors such as Bud Light, Miller Lite, and Coors Light, who all target mainly college students. According to an online article “Social Media Overview of Coors light, Bud Light, and Dogfish Head Brewery” Coors Light beer is one of the most popular beer brands in North America. Coors Light’s target demographic appears to be college students. After researching Coors Light’s social media we have learned that they do not update their Twitter page on a regular basis. In fact, their first “tweet” on Twitter was back in October 2009 that wrote, “Coors light BC is now on Twitter! This is your home base for the most up to date Coors Light Information, check here for event info and more.” Also, the only official Coors Light Twitter account is named @CoorsLightBC, created from British Columbia and Canada. The article explains that since the creation of the Coors Light account, the company has only achieved a few over four hundred followers, and only having forty nine tweets. When searching, Coors Light on Facebook, the Canadian website appears, which only has a little over one hundred “likes” and only posted one picture that did not have an explanation beneath it describing the picture. Coors Light makes it difficult for its company to build brand awareness and drive customer engagement, which social media is greatly used to do. Coors Light’s Facebook page is bare and not informative. Since Coors Light targets their beer towards mainly college students, which most college students have Facebook pages, we feel that this puts Coors Light at a disadvantage. Since they are not updating statuses on Facebook or interacting with Facebook friends, they are not building brand awareness or driving customer engagement through this medium.…

    Social Media Engagement

We must remember that your social media page is representing yourself as an indie artist and not Target's customer service page. As a company selling a service, you should ALWAYS respond to a negative comment with an apology followed by a solution. As a musician, however, every negative comment can't be met with an apology OR a solution. If a fan says the drums sound terrible in your new song, there isn't much you can do. You can't talk them into appreciating the drums, but you should also not berate them for having a certain opinion.…
