Media Analyse Two Adverts
In this essay I have chosen to compare two adverts. I chose two from a magazine called ‘VOGUE ', I chose them as they both were linked by the theme of fashion but were advertising different products, this will help me show differences between the adverts but the fashion theme will help me to also highlight similarities. The first advert I chose was by a company called ‘Garrard ' they make fashion accessories such as leather accessories, silverware and also jewellery which is what they are mainly known for. The advert I chose has specifically advertised jewellery in this case a ring and a necklace. On face value the advert has a ring and a necklace laid on a picture of a of the U.K flag. Part of both pieces of jewellery look like wings and they are put into position so that the flag looks as though it has wings. The words rock hard are also on the flag this is a 'Garrard ' logo which is also used on the website. At the bottom of the advert is the address of ‘Garrard ' shops, the website address and the ‘Garrard ' logo in bold letters. The second advert I have chose is by a designer called ‘Yves Saint Laurent ' or ‘YSL ', this company is known mainly for its perfume and clothes. This advert is advertising a new perfume fragrance however there are six people in the advert who are wearing YSL clothes but the advert is not specifically advertising them. On face value the advert is focusing on a woman surrounded by men the men are in suits and the woman is In a white dress at the bottom of the advert is the ‘Yves Saint Laurent ' logo and above this is the word Cinema which is the name of the fragrance. Also in the bottom right corner of the advert is a picture of the perfume bottle. These adverts attracted me as they were both bold and in your face so I was immediately attracted to look at them.

In the ‘Garrard ' advert the image of the British flag immediately hits you I think this is used to make a statement. The flag being on a white background makes the flag

    In this essay I will discuss the similarities and differences of two holiday adverts; one for Blackpool and the other for Ibiza. Firstly I will discuss the layout of the adverts. The Blackpool ad has a central picture of recognisable attractions such as the Blackpool tower and ferris wheel by the harbour which shimmers with light which brightens up the advert, similarly the Ibiza advert has a central eye catching picture of three young people dancing laughing and a sexy young female posing on her own on the beach whilst the sun is setting. The Blackpool ad has the writing on the left hand side which states the main important facts and a postcard in the middle of the picture and information listed where as Ibiza has their images on the left, small white font which isn’t clear and few aspects written around the ad. This give a different feed back to the audience that their images are their main appearance where as Blackpool is detailing both information and few images. Their adverts are different because Ibiza focuses their holiday for a younger generation to seek out selling that holiday or product for that specific type of audience, where as Blackpool specialise for an older generation to sell their product.…

    The first advertisement that will be analysed is a 1980s Camel cigarette poster. Camel was a popular cigarette brand in the late 1970s up to the early 2000s. This advertisement presents a young attractive male smoking in the foreground with the Camel packet in his sleeve. The attractive young male signifies the apparent benefits of smoking; he has a muscly figure with nice hair, a defined jaw line and a tattoo.     Media semiotics in its most basic form originates from Greek philosophers where the idea of a ‘sign’ meant that it is something that represents something to someone in some way. More recently semiotics finds their origin from structuralism. Structuralism can be said that it is the study or description of details and their different components regardless of how large or small. In media structuralism describes and explains how text and each component of that text functions within the context and in relation with the rest of the components of the text. The signifier and signified are two of the three components of what is known as a sign, this is according to de Saussure.
