Medical Field Influences
No doubt my influences have inspired me to set my life on a course to pursuing a career in the medical field as far as my motivations they stem from helping others, knowledge, development, moral personal standards and helping society. These values explains what I inspire to become and provide through my work. Helping others has always been a natural goal for myself. It came easy for me to want to help others. Helping others is important to me, because the smallest gestures of help can transform one’s life in the most beneficial way. Not everyone has the help of family and friends so, I believe everyone needs help even when they do not ask for it. Just knowing that by helping others I can possibly improve one’s mood, life or health creates meaning and purpose for my life. It makes me feel like I am working towards my purpose. For example, in high school I was in a club called the Random Act of Kindness Club. While in this club I learned that just by doing small acts of kindness can really make a difference in the lives of others. While in this club I decorated a teacher’s door because she got teacher of the month. We surprised her by decorating her door. This may mean nothing to some people, but to her it meant everything. It showed her that her …show more content…
Through knowledge I can achieve my personal goals and dreams. I do not want to work a job that does not add any value to my understanding of things I should know. An example of knowledge would be working as a clinical psychologist who treats psychotic disorders, but instead of learning how to treat patients with the disorder and understand the many forms of disorders I do not learn the duties of the job correctly. I believe that working in any field one should be able to gain more knowledge than what they learned in college. If the job is not adding to help you gain knowledge to help others then it is

My choosing to become a doctor may have stemmed from the ideas that I took away from the various books that I read over the years. Well, I was at a loss for words when I read that sentence because I realized that I don’t know why it is, that I do what I do. If I were to dig in deeper, like really deep, I would assume it’s because I want to do good for myself and my parents. But there are goals to be made. Accomplishments to achieve. And lessons to learn. The first step, started with you. You sparked that idea into my head. That one question, “Should I go into the medical field?” I asked that because I hated the idea of being a doctor and was unsure of what to do with my life. Most Asian parents want their children to be a doctor or a lawyer and most kids hate the pressure pushed onto them. As for me, it actually woke me up. I’m not gonna lie and say it wasn’t for the money, but I can say that there are more reasons that go…

In addition, my employment experience has provided me with great respect for social and ethical views that differ from my own. This position has given me the opportunity to decide if a career in medicine is truly where I would like to be. Working at the hospital has been a truly challenging experience through dealing with the magnitude of death, illness, and recovery. This experience has made me realize that a career in medicine is where I need to be. I have experienced a multitude of emotions and in the end I have realized that the reward of knowing that a life was saved or that through the death of a patient, we have made groundbreaking discoveries in medicine is far greater than the emotional tensity associated with the experience.…

There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

It also really inspires me to really give everything I have and to take risks. My aspirations for my career is to go into Physical Therapy. After my four years at MSU, I hope to be able to go to John Hopkins to further my education for Physical Therapy. After I finish schooling, I want to work in a practice for a while, then when I am more experienced, I want to try and open my own practice. As for my aspirations at MSU, I really want to be at the top of the class, and just get all the hands on experience I can get, and really enjoy what I am learning. I know that my dreams take work and a lot of dedication, so to help me achieve them, I know I need to set smaller goals to keep myself inspired, but having something to work for that’s realistic at that moment. I will use each of the smaller goals as stepping stones to my ultimate goal of owning my own practice. This will be easy because I work harder for things that mean a lot to me, and this is very…

I believe in being a kind and straightforward person, in doing things that will greatly enhance and improve my life and the lives of others around me, this gave me hope. It is important for me to be able to reach out and help others. As a young man entering my senior year of high school, my mind races as I try to figure out what it is that I’ll commit my life to. What will be the driving passion, the purpose of my existence, the reason I get out of bed every morning to face another day of this life? Some people would try to encourage me to choose a career simply for its potential to make me wealthy. However, looking at the degenerate lives of the rich and the famous around the world, its apparent to me that the pursuit of earthly riches alone isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. I’d rather spend my days in pursuit of something more fulfilling. As far as I can tell from my past experiences and the experiences of those that have walked this life before me, there is nothing more mentally, emotionally, or spiritually fulfilling than the helping my fellow man achieve a healthier state of wellbeing. As a young boy I was fascinated by the television hospital drama ER. I was excited by how the doctors and the nurses worked together to save the victims that were rushed into the ward. Although the interpersonal drama and basically all other aspects of the show went over my head at age 5, the fact that those men and women saved lives was enough to keep me interested. I desire to be a Naval Nurse Officer so that I, along with my fellow RNs, could work together with the Naval Physicians in improving the lives of those that come to us for care. I use the term “improvement of lives” intentionally. I’d hope not only to help repair broken bodies, but to use the knowledge I learn at university to help educate patients on how to live healthier lives. I want them to focus on living life in pursuit of things that make them happy, as opposed to medication dosages and being cooped up in hospital beds. I’d strive to be an uplifting and comforting figure in the midst of the sorrow that is unfortunately an inevitable part of…

When I was four years old I was asked, "Katie, what do you want to do when you grow up?” To my family's surprise my response was "Work on hearts or brains". This aspiration has never wavered, and has only become more a part of who I am today through first hand experiences and opportunities I have had in the medical field. I have been fortunate enough to see surgeries first hand, work next to medical professionals, and get an idea of what different occupations bring to the table in the field of medicine.…

My participation in Student Government has taught me important leadership skills I will be able to carry with me throughout, not only my college career, but my nursing career. Sports has taught me that hard work, discipline, and teamwork will not only defeat any obstacle that comes my way, but with the help and encouragement of others, we can come together as one and get the job done. My extracurricular activities have taught me that with the aid of others anything is possible. Through my community service volunteering at a local housing company for the mentally disabled, I have seen first-hand what the impact one person can make on another’s life. Helping and mentoring the mentally disabled who can’t do some tasks on their own has touched my heart and changed the way I appreciate life in many different aspects. It just reminds me of how fortunate I am to be able to help other, despite the time it takes to do so. The overall time I have sacrificed to do these extracurricular activities inside and outside of school has all been well worth it. Overall, the life lessons I have learned and the change in character I have gained from these activities are gifts I will be able to carry with me in able to achieve my goal.…
