without due process of law. Kentucky and Virginia gave power to the states to nullify federal law. However, the governments said no to medical Marijuana. Which, Kentucky and Virginia Resolution states, is it gives the power to the states whether they accept it or not, Which means they can’t deny the liberty of people wanting to use Marijuana for medical purposes. Instead, of seeing medical Marijuana as a negative product; people should realize the good in it. In my opinion, legalizing marijuana is for a good cause and it shouldn’t be held back, if it's helping lives. As we all know, medical Marijuana reduces pain, nausea, cancer, and asthma, etc. When has it ever been a harmful problem, by helping someone out? Therefore, the use of medical Marijuana, should be legal, in order to help the people that suffer from physical and emotional pain. Marijuana has some medical uses; it shouldn’t be regulated by the federal government, and the legalization of Marijuana will lead to a decrease in crime rate.
Marijuana has always been portrayed as a drug that served no medical purpose. However, in Oct. 20, 2003 it was stated that medical Marijuana is not good for people. "Although I understand many believe marijuana is the most effective drug in combating their medical ailments, I would caution against this assumption due to the lack of consistent, repeatable scientific data available to prove marijuana's medical benefits.
Based on current evidence, I believe that marijuana is a dangerous drug and that there are less dangerous medicines offering the same relief from pain and other medical symptoms." - Bill Frist, Former US Senator Oct.
20, 2003. In research, there has been a handful of useful things, known to cause better living situations. Medical Marijuana, is a contributing factor into assisting with patients around the globe that suffer from inadequate body issues. “Your body already makes marijuana-like chemicals that affect pain, inflammation, and many other processes. Marijuana can sometimes help those natural chemicals work better, says Laura Borgelt, PharmD, of the University of Colorado.” Laura states, even our own body functions like if it took medical Marijuana, but it would work much more effective if we did use medical Marijuana. For instance, medical Marijuana helps cancer patients a lot by giving them a time of relaxation. “At the time, I thought I was handling my diagnosis and everything pretty well. Well, [an old friend] brought this over, and I had about three hits off of the joint; all of a sudden — the pain was gone, the nausea was gone. I felt the anxiety going away. Anxiety that I didn’t even know that I had. Everything was really kinda OK. I was feeling like how a normal person should.” Anne Johnston, was a patient suffering from Stage III colorectal and only had 6 months to live. Stage III colorectal, is a type of cancer that forms cancer cells around the colon tissue. When she first tried Marijuana, she explained how much of a relief she felt just by having access to it. By having access to medical marijuana and taking it, it helped Anne overcome the symptoms she was suffering from. Anne, lived up to more than just 6 months, due to medical Marijuana. from Additionally, 69% of doctors say it can help with certain treatments and conditions and 67% of doctors say it should be a medical option for patients. This means, doctors are on board about helping patients
that are in need. In order, to fulfill their jobs correctly but first medical Marijuana needs to be legal.
Furthermore, Marijuana should be up to the states not the federal government. The federal government doesn’t have enough knowledge about the states. So that means, the federal government doesn’t have the right to make decisions for the states. The federal government usually only does things that benefits them, but not the people they’re supposed to represent. The states, should have the right to control whether or not Marijuana will benefit the state since they have the knowledge, in order to make the decision best suited for that specific state. There shouldn’t be a third party such as the federal government being involved in the legalization of Marijuana. “By comparison, marijuana is nontoxic and cannot cause death by overdose.” There is no factual evidence that it is a harmful substance, however it can be seen as a gateway drug. It is mostly seen as only a gateway drug it is uncommonly known to be a harmful substance. There has been more cases of medical Marijuana being beneficial to someone than harming them. It’s like every other pharmaceutical drug, if controlled correctly it can help improve a human beings health rather than hurting them. If a drug doesn’t have much information on causing harm to humans, then why should it be regulated by the federal government? The drug isn’t hurting anyone, instead it’s helping people in many ways possible. It’s safe to say that the states should have the right to have control of whether or not they want to legalize Marijuana. “At the federal level, marijuana remains classified as a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act, where Schedule I substances are considered to have a high potential for dependency and no accepted medical use, making distribution of marijuana a federal offense.” Although, many people argue that Marijuana has no medical potential, in reality Marijuana does have potential to have medicinal purposes. There is no need to have a federal offense on something that will benefit the health of a human being.
Crime has always been related to the distribution of Marijuana, but if it were to be legalized there would be a decrease in crime rate. “Guess what happens when marijuana is legalized? Not only do you not have to steal it, but it also makes your state tons of cash while dropping crime rates in every conceivable fashion.” Due to the fact that it can be obtained legally like you would obtain any regular medicine. “Number of those charged with marijuana law violations who were arrested for possession only: 609,423 (88 percent)” This proves, that in order for the numbers to decrease it is if, medical Marijuana becomes legal in the states. There would be a drastic change within the numbers that are shown. Possession of Marijuana has been the highest crime rate than anything else, just because of how it is being used. Legalizing a herb that could benefit someone’s health, should be accessible. In several states there has been a dramatic decrease in crime rates. For example, “just three months after Colorado voters helped pass the legalization of marijuana, Denver is enjoying a 14.6% decrease in crime from the same time last year.” This proves, by passing medical Marijuana could mean there’s a chance for lower crime rates. Which it is beneficial, to have for a state. Furthermore, Legalizing medical marijuana causes no increase in crime, according to a new study. In fact, “legalized medical pot may reduce some violent crime, including homicide, University of Texas at Dallas researchers wrote in a journal article.” Many researchers have found out that the legalization of medical marijuana, does indeed decrease crime rates. However, it doesn’t decrease for all crime rates just some.
In conclusion, the legalization of Marijuana has medicinal purposes, the federal government should not be allowed to regulate it, and with the legalization of Marijuana the crime rate will drop significantly. Although, many people are criticized for the use of Marijuana not everyone that consumes it does it fun, some do it because it helps them cope with the pain they endure. Marijuana has always been portrayed as a gateway drug. Although, it has benefits that help people out in various of ways. A pharmaceutical, that gives people an efficient amount of boost should not be illegal. Medical Marijuana should be only used for medical purposes. The substance should be a controlled drug that can be distributed to those who need it such as people suffering from cancer.
