In interacting with your discussion I realized that some of the health factors that interfered with medication adherence in my experience, is the stress of health care visits with some patients, in some instant it is because, they don't have the mean to get to the provider office and have to use public transportation that add to a very stressful situation. Other time is because, some feel discomfort in asking providers questions, because these are in a rush to speak with patient that they in turn sometimes can remember what they really want to ask about the medication so this get in the way of patient belief or understanding.…
OBJECTIVES: This dissertation employs a three empirical research papers approach to study the following aims: (1) the prevalence and patterns of medication nonadherence to essential chronic medications in Medicare super-utilizers with chronic conditions, and to identify the factors associated with medication nonadherence, with special emphasis on factors including mental illness and use of opioid medications, (2) examine associations between medication nonadherence, and inpatient and ED use, and to evaluate other risk factors associated with health care utilization in Medicare super-utilizers with chronic conditions, and (3) examine the impact of the SafeMed Program, a care transitions program with a focus on medication management, on medication use and adherence among publicly insured super-utilizers with chronic conditions.…
The majority of the population was dual-eligible (63.5%), received low-income cost sharing subsidy (70.3%), had >2 chronic conditions (94.7%), had chronic pain (77.1%), and used >1 opioid medication (68.7%), in the fourth period. In the multivariate model, factors associated with medication nonadherence included age 1 opioid medication filled (OR: 1.32, CI: 1.14-1.53), outpatient physician visits (OR: 1.03, CI: 1.01-1.07), and period 4 (OR: 1.24, CI: 1.05-1.47). Physician office visits were associated with decreased nonadherence (OR: 0.98, CI:…
In order for an institution to be in violation of Title IX, the school must have authority over the harasser and over the environment in which the harassment took or takes place, its response to harassment is “clearly unreasonable in light of known circumstances,” (Marshal 2014) failing to respond to hostile educational environment, and if the victim can show that the school purposely ignored reported acts of violence and harassment occurring in school programs and activities (Edwards 2015). Noncompliance puts the school at risk of losing federal funding. In the case of before the fact indifference, a school had previous knowledge of an admitted student being a possible threat to other students and does not take the proper steps to ensure other…
Sequential compression devices are non-invasive, and are usually the first choice for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis (Moore et al., 2013). Patients’ outcomes are poor despite medical orders for SCDs. Patient noncompliance is one of the top causes for venous thromboembolism development. Noncompliance is usually due to discomfort sensations such as itching, sweating, tightness, and just disliking the feeling of sleeves on the legs. Furthermore, patients often remove these devices without notifying the nurse. Due to the short lived effects of SCD’s, a VTE may develop rapidly after discontinuation (Moore et al., 2013).…

As mentioned above, different strategies have been implemented to prevent the unfavorable effects of medical errors, particularly mistakes in medication administration. Because of medication errors, the patients’ mortality went up, which costs the U.S. healthcare systems billions of dollars yearly. It was also reported that every year, there are approximately 450 000 unfavorable medication circumstances of which 25 percent could have been prevented, that caused an injury to the patient. Therefore, other than the CDSS/CPOE implementation, the following systems were being used to aid in the improvement of the medication administration efficiency: intravenous infusion pumps with preprogrammed drug information, barcode-assisted medication administration…

Detachment describes the way a child reacts to their attachment figure after being separated from her for a time period and then meets her again. Children who had been separated from their attachment figure for days or weeks, when reunited with their attachment figure showed detachment behaviors. Detachment behaviors are: no recognition of the attachment figure; turning away and/or walking away from the attachment figure; crying or coming close to crying; and an expressionless face. Furthermore, “There is reason to believe that after a very prolonged or repeated separation during the first three years of life detachment can persist indefinitely” (p. 12). From the above information we learn that separation is dangerous; it has lifelong effects and should be avoided if possible.…

Noncompliance is a common problem in many clinical settings. This barrier may be very frustrating for the APN. The patient may choose not to adhere to the recommendations of their primary care providers. Some reasons for noncompliance may not be the patient’s choice such as literacy issues, lack of funds, lack of resources, or inadequate communications. These are issues that may be addressed by the case manager or social worker who are involved in the…

We in America tend to take medications for almost any problem we have, from headaches to gastrointestinal pain, to more serious chronic disorders such as depression and attention deficit disorder. While many of the uses of such medications may be necessary and legitimate, many are not, and due to this fact, many people become dependent on medications, mentally, and or physically. This problem is not simply the fault of the individual; in fact, the blame can also be placed upon the medical community, and the pharmaceutical companies who produce the drugs. How often can one turn on the television to see advertisements for Claritin, Aspirin, Pepto-Bismol, or even Zoloft or Ritalin? The pharmaceutical industry is motivated by monetary gain, not purely by the well being of those using their drugs. These companies have aggressive advertising campaigns, and representatives who travel to medical practices to promote the company's products. Pharmaceutical representatives are rewarded generously for increases in the prescription of their drugs, causing them to be highly motivated to convince medical professionals of the worth of prescribing their products. The use of medications, prescription or not, should be based on one factor alone, necessity, and if necessity is not the reason for the drug's use, then in effect, the drug is being abused. One particularly troubling case of overmedication is that of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.…
Prescription drug abuse is a modern-day disease. In an estimate, over six million Americans have abused prescription medication. However, there is no completely accurate way to measure prescription drug abuse. Many people suffer from addiction because of certain doctors’ carelessness in writing prescriptions. When doctors’ are caught intentionally over prescribing abused medications, they are typically the punishment for their crimes is very small. Young adults are also beginning to abuse prescription drugs by illegally purchasing them from the prescription holder and using them as study or party drugs. Prescription drug abuse has torn apart families, destroyed lives, and has even resulted in death. Some people think that by focusing on prescription…
