During the medieval period the church would have had a great influence on medicine and people's lives in general. One way in which the church played a great influence is that people believed that God was the cause of disease. We can see this as people would punish themselves in the street in order to seek forgiveness from God for their sins in order to prevent them from getting diseases such as the black death, therefore as people thought God was the cause of disease they would go to church when they were ill.
A second way in which the church influenced medicine was through providing medical care and hospitals. During the medieval period the government did
