Medieval cathedrals were the wealth signs of the church. These were larger than castles. The cost for the construction of cathedral was high and the money for these buildings was paid by the people itself in the medieval times .For building magnificent buildings, medieval workers worked with basic tools.

Chartres was having population of 10,000 people and the estimated cost of the project was billion dollars. People gave their jewels and money for the project but that money was not enough for the project. But they knew that if cathedral construction could not take place, then local business will burst as there would be no pilgrims. So they appealed money across the Europe. Donations came flooding in from Western Europe for the project. Cathedral was spot for the traders. They had to pay double taxes. Two years later, when funds got shortened, bishop used homely insurance policy to keep construction going. In 1196, when funds run out, people patience run out as work came to halt as they saw the project nowhere near the finish. Building works were destroyed that time and king decided people to pay compensation for the riots.So people’s money was used to build the
