Music in the medieval-ages was played frequently, they played the drums, flute, harp and the hurdie gurdie (Taylor,28-29). You know the song “do a deer a female deer”, a man named Guido D’Arezzo made a song like that in the medieval-ages. He also made a tool to teach singers called the “Guidonian hand”(Music for the Listener). Also a minstrel was a guitar player in the medieval-ages (Frey, 50).
Jousting was the most popular sport in the medieval-ages. Jousting when two Knights with a …show more content…
horse with a lance try to knock each other of of the other opponents horse, the person with the most points at the end wins (Bingham,27). Jousting wasn't a real fight it was just for entertainment. In class when we talked about Knights and how they have weapons and armor but in jousting it Is different, but how? Well in jousting they use lances, a lance is like a long spear that they try to knock each other of each others horses and Points are mostly earned by breaking a lance on the other opponents armor (The Tudors-Joust!). The laces weren't sharp because when you joust the objective of the game is to not kill the other person. Jousting was held on special occasions and the queen would be there(The Tudors-Joust!) And it would also be held on castle grounds (Bingham,27).
In the medieval-ages children played with toys such as dolls, wooden swords, hobby horses which is a horse head on a stick when you pretend you are riding a horse (Frey, 50) and they also played with playing soldiers which is when strings are attached to toy soldiers and they pulled them to look like they were fighting (Taylor, 28-29).They also played games like bandy ball, when you hit a ball with curved sticks (Taylor, 28-29),badminton, lawn bowling, and blind mans bluff (Frey, 50). In class we talked about all or the different ranks on the hierarchy and the serfs are at the bottom, that means that the serfs didn't have a lot of money so they make different games that cost less like throwing rocks into ponds, jumping over ditches and playing archery.Adults played other games like Chess, checkers, back gammon, card games, betting on rolls of dice, and dancing but soon after that all of those activities were frowned upon by the church (Frey, 50).
Some more entertainment they had was animal baiting which was when you tied a snake to a bull or bear and they let out a trained dog to torment the captive (very cruel amusement) , mystery plays which were religious plays based off of bible story's which were eventually disapproved by the church (Frey, 50), chess it was popular because it was a war game, and wild partying which is when they bring newly discovered animals from different countries and partied with them (Taylor, 28-29).
There were entertainers such as jugglers, dancers, clowns, minstrels that entertained fairgoers, and guild members who dressed up and paraded around town (Frey, 50).
