Mediumship: Fraud or Genuine? Many attempts to communicate with the dead have been documented back to early human history. The oracles of ancient Greece were consulted for advice, and ancient shamans and witch doctors traditionally contacted spirits. People believe mediums mediate communication between the spirits of the dead and other human beings. Although mediumship threatens beliefs of many people and their religions, there is still a large number of people who believe it is very real. Mediumship did not gain popularity until the Spiritualist Movement in the mid-nineteenth century. Mediums and séances were extremely popular with the public. A séance is a meeting

Mediumship can be distinguished as two basic types: mental mediumship and physical mediumship. Mental mediumship is the relaying information via thought transference or mental telepathy. This all takes place in the conscious of the medium. Mental mediumship is also referred to as telepathic mediumship. Physical mediumship on the other hand, involves the transformation and manipulation of physical systems and energies. What actually happens can be many things depending on the style of mediumship used, but the results can be seen and heard by others. “In some cases, the spirit of a dead person, even some time after his or her death, can select a living person as a mount whose body they commandeer and through whose mouth they speak”(Hopkins 407). A majority of people living today do not believe mediumship in real. Little do they know that they are many biblical accounts of …show more content…

They are just hopeful for another minute with loved ones who have passed on. Regret is a significant role when dealing with loss. Many people feel regret for all the overlooked moments and everything that was left unsaid. It isn’t unusual to get wrapped up in our everyday routines and forget to appreciate those around us. And when those around us are no longer there, it is inevitable that some guilt will be felt. To seek the help of a psychic or a medium seems a bit unusual to some, but to others they want nothing more than to obtain that “just another minute” with their loved ones. With the movement of mediumship growing more and more popular and obtaining more and more followers, it was bound to have it’s skeptics. They believe mediums exploit gullible people and negatively affect the grieving process by faking communication with dead relatives. Skeptics claim that mediums have a range of techniques they utilize to obtain specific information to convince an audience their results are genuine. In subject Aldana

Between 1770 and 1774 Johann Joseph Gassner and Frank Mesmer introduced the practice of hypnotherapy. Mesmer believed that natural forces were exerted by animals and those forces had healing powers. He had many followers and his theories were greatly practiced till about 1925. Today they are all but forgotten except for in some small countries. As for Gassner who was a Catholic priest who believed in hypnotherapy and exorcism. Gassner did not have as many followers as Mesner and they actually asked Mesner to help them disprove what Gassner was saying.…

Premise; Altered States of Consciousness (ASC’s) have a direct relationship with Occult Practice and; certain drug usage is an occult practice (be it recreational or ritualistic). This paper presents evidence from a wide range of sources. To my knowledge all the sources are from non-Biblical worldviews; apart from Gasson (1985), Bobgan (1984) and Dr John Ankerberg and Dr. John Weldon in their work ‘The Worldview and Practices of the Occult’. Nevertheless all the sources offer evidence in support of the above premise. The phenomenon that we…

In Stephen Wagner’s article “Mothers' Messages from Beyond,” Wagner writes about the accounts of real people who claim they have felt the presence of their mothers in some way after their passing. The article includes five personal accounts from other people, along with Wagner’s own personal experience. The supernatural accounts vary anywhere from hearing whispers, seeing apparitions, and even seeing the deceased in one’s dreams. Wagner’s primary point is that a mother’s love and presence is so powerful, it can be felt in the physical realm whether the mother is deceased or nowhere near the child. One example of a mother’s presence being felt in the physical realm while being disconnected physically or mortally with their child was mentioned in the account of Kris in August, 1975. Kris claimed to have heard her mother’s…

We communicate with people by exchange information between each other. We talk by verbal and nonverbal communication. These tools are used to help us process this information. Those tools are speaking, listening, and our body language, all of these tools help us communicate and to understand others. In the Hispanic and Latino literature they communicate through spirituality, magic, and through myth. These tools play an important part in the way they communicate to one another in their culture. We as American seem to take things for granted of things that are not important and not focus on things that are important.…

To suggest an entire group of people could suffer from simultaneous sensory malfunctions, producing a collective hallucination in which all participants agree on the subject of the hallucination, and the hallucination’s actions and speech, runs contrary to scientific evidence and the current medical understanding of hallucination phenomena. Therefore, the hallucination hypothesis proves explanatorily impotent, unable to account for group encounters with Jesus, after his resurrection.…

The Rite of the Exorcism, published in 1614 and revised in 1999, acts as the guide for the process (Order of Exorcists). Prior to the Catholic publication, exorcism had been taking place centuries earlier in Egypt and Mesopotamia (Hill & Williams, 56-60). Although portrayed as a strictly Judeo-Christian practice in popular culture, in many societies, possession of spirits, both good and demonic, are seen as a normal part of faith (Hill & Williams, 60). The 1999 revision of The Rite of the Exorcism requires that priests must access an individual’s mental health provider before an exorcism takes place. Criteria for Catholic exorcism includes, speaking in a foreign language, abnormal strength, excessive masturbation, and a knowledge of information that the person would not be aware of. Once an exorcism is ordered, the procedure is comprised of restraining the possessed and reciting certain prayers and techniques found in The Rite of the Exorcism by the exorcist(s). There is no set amount of time for an exorcism to be completed, the process is rarely accomplished the first time (Hill &Williams, 94-95). Following the exorcism, the formally possessed will likely feel a sense of…

While I was a kid, my father got one of the first phones in the neighborhood. I can perfectly remember that wooden crates lacquered, mounted on the wall. The bright receiver was hanging on a side. I was still too small to reach the phone but I was always listening, fascinated, as my mother spoke to him. Then I discovered that somewhere inside this device lived an amazing person. Her name was "Hello Central" and there was no one thing in this world, which she would not know. Hello Central can tell you anybody's phone number and also the exact time . My experience with this spirit closed in a bottle came one day when, while my mother was visiting a neighbor and I was playing whit the tool bench in the cellar,I hit my finger with a hammer. The pain was terrible and there was no one around me to show any compassion. I walked around the house sucking on my sore finger until I reached the ladder. The phone! I quickly dragged up a chair from the living room in the lobby. I stepped on it, I forked out the telephone receiver and I put it to my ear. "Hello, Central!", I shouted into the microphone which was just above my head.A click or two and then a low and clear voice answered me back." I've hurt my finger ", I whimper on the phone and tears overcame me soon, now that I had an audience. "Your mommy is not home?", the question followed. "There's nobody home but me " I stammered. . "Are you bleeding?", the voice asked me and I answered that i am not. "I hit myself with the hammer and now it hurts so bad". "Can you open the cooler?" she asked me again and I said I can. "Then get over there and get a piece of ice and keep it glued to your thumb " said the voice.…
