1. What changes in the environment made it possible to consider the launch of an OTC Aids Test? Be specific.
The launch of an OTC Aids Test in United States was only possible to be considered after some changes in the environment.
Due to growing incidences of infectious diseases (HIV, Hepatitis
C,…) there was a need to do something in order to overcome this issue that affected so many people. So MedMira Laboratories decided to develop rapid tests able to give accurate diagnosis that allowed healthcare providers to deliver effective treatment faster.
In the past years most of the HIV tests were performed using conventional testing technology, which required a minimum of 2 to
8 hours to produce results, highly trained laboratory personnel and special equipment to perform and interpret the tests. In order to decrease costs, these testes were normally performed in batches, which delayed the process for patients to get their results up to two weeks. So rapid HIV tests emerged as a good, faster and cheaper alternative for conventional testing technology. Rapid HIV testing was a growing market worldwide.
Advancements made in anti-retroviral treatment were also an important step to the launch of an OTC Aids Test. It changed the way people faced a positive result. Until then a positive result was often seen as a death sentence. But with these advancements made in anti-retroviral treatment it had became a much more manageable illness. This help reduced the risk related with home tests. Also the possible partnership with Home Access could allow MedMira to take advantage of its patented phone support system and its counseling services. 2. Prepare a SWOT analysis for MedMira Aids Test.

    ResMed developed a CPAP device to help prevent OSA in those patients with sleep apnea. 30% of CPAP patients discontinued therapy b/c of the discomfort of having constant air pressure delivered to them.     In medusa, Duffy uses the character of a female to show power. "Be terrfied". This quote is a short sentence which emphasises her power and that when she looks at you, it doesnt take long till you are turned into stone. The sentence also creates a sinister tone in a way that she wants you t be afraid of her because she was once destroyed now she wants to destroy others as she has the power to do so. Duffy later on uses the verb "shattered" which links with the word "spattered". This demonstartes the strength of her power to destroy, her power is so strong that anything that comes in her way either ends up "shattered" or "spattered". The verbs also infer that with power comes jelousy because Medusa destroys everything that appears to be positive and beautiful. They might also suggest that the way she has destroyed inncocent life is a way to say that she is out of contro herself.The poem structured around her transformation, and the escalating scale of the living things she turns to "stone". She starts with a "buzzing-bee" and her victims increase in size until she changes a "dragon" into a "volcano". Finally she turns her attention to the man who broke her heart. In her last line Medusa says "look at me now". this line, given great structural emphasis, is hugely ambiguous.It could be a heart-felt plea for attention as well as, of course, a heavily ironic threat and reminder of her capabilities.The paradox for Medusa is that she has become trapped by her own power. Duffy may be suggesting that the negative and destructive qualities of revenge will eventually undo their perpetrator. But surgery capacity is 33 operations/day only. Bottleneck (number of operations/day) is therefore located between these two processes. Hospital performs 33 operations/day = demand 116 beds/Wed,Thu and 99 beds/Tue. Demand is 116 and current capacity is 89. Bottleneck is the number of beds available. It is necessary to increase capacity by (116-89)/89 = 30% just to meet current schedule of surgeries. Currently there are 30 – 36 operations performed daily = 33 for an average. 4*5 = 20 in the morning and 13 in the afternoon (assuming that time slot will last ca. 50 minutes). Here is an opportunity for improvement. Each of normal operations takes 1 hour and there are 5 hours available during the morning => increase 1 operation / room which represents total of 5 operations across 5 operating rooms per day. During afternoon is no improvement possible. It results in increasing of capacity for a total 38 / day (25 each morning and 13 each afternoon). When scheduled for 5 day week, it requires 133 rooms available for peak days of the week (Wed and Thu). The new need represents 50% increase in capacity compared to the current capacity of 89 rooms. Recommendation: Hospital should invest 4 million dollars in the new space, which will increase bed capacity by 50% and will require perform Saturday surgeries as well. Capacity of beds will increase 89*(1 + 50%) = 133. It exceeds number of beds needed at the time (116), therefore eliminate the bed capacity bottleneck. With 133 beds it is possible to accommodate 38 new patients / day, thus 38 operations can be performed per day. Daily examination capacity, daily operation capacity and number of beds available corresponds without any troubles => no individual bottleneck.…
