Meeting Human Services Challenges with Technology The Human Services Field faces numerous issues, challenges, or problems on a daily basis. Some examples of the issues that are being dealt with are: child welfare, healthcare reform, poverty, economic injustice, and affordable housing. All of these challenges pose problems to human services professionals who are trying to assist clients with these issues. As a team, we will discuss the challenge of the high rate of poverty due to unemployment. In this paper we will: state the problem(s), challenge(s), or issues(s) that we discovered; discuss how we solved the problem and determined a possible solution; describe the technological tools that we decided would assist in resolving the issue(s); and explain how our solution could be used in organization in our community and the possible impact the solution would have.
Problem(s), Challenge(s), or Issue(s) Human service professionals are constantly working diligently on behalf of the clients that they assist every day. Some of the challenges that were discovered are: child welfare, health care reform, poverty, economic injustice (which includes mounting poverty, mounting hardships, and mounting social problems), and assisting clients with securing affordable housing. Advocacy on the client’s behalf is yet another challenge for the human services professional. On the national level, there are legislative issues that human services professionals will have to advocate for on behalf of clients. A few examples of these issues are: Medicare reform, criminal justice reform, and education reform. But according to Geoff Colvin, senior editor-in-chief at CNN Money, “Unemployment is the #1 issue in America”. Unemployment is one of the reasons for the high rate of poverty in America, and the numbers are growing every day.
