Lastly, you can accomplish a great amount if you work as a team. The film Powaqqatsi has a scene that shows groups of people dancing in costumes, performing for people. In this scene, the people are happy, they all have smiles on their faces and are enjoying the company of the people around them as they dance and create music together. The idea of working together in Powaqqatsi is also portrayed in the episode “Flight” of Grey’s Anatomy. The plane, transporting six of the Seattle Grace doctors, just crashed to the ground and everyone is injured and some even facing death. Meredith Grey is on a mission to find her husband, Derek Shepherd, after the plane crashes. After looking and looking, Christina Yang, Meredith’s best friend, and Meredith…

Duddy’s father seems to be more of a chill dad; he lets Duddy smoke and drink. He lets Duddy experience and be around aspects which most people would not let their children be allowed to see or hear. Max also tells stories and seems to be quite popular amongst his friends. Max seems to be the kind of parent that every kid wants but doesn’t want at the same time, they can slake off but sometimes you need some strictness in your life and a person to be there to help you or to be there for you.…
Few teams have gone from irrelevance to significance as quickly as the newly (re)christened Los Angeles Rams.…
In the movie The Rookie, directed by John Lee Hancock, the director tells a story about a high school baseball coach from Texas named Jimmy Morris. Morris’s dream throughout his life was to make it to the big leagues and play with the very best in the game. He faced multiple challenges that tried to hold him back from his dream. One of the challenges he faced was his dad, his father disapproved of him playing baseball and didn’t support him playing at a young age. Another big challenge was the town Morris’s family moved to, they didn’t care for baseball and there was nowhere to play. In the end, an injury ended his career and he knew it was time to give it up. Eventually, Morris got married and had three children,…
“In this bright future you can’t forget your past.” Sweet, simple, and to the point was this quote said by Jamaican reggae artist Bob Marley. The major theme of this movie is returning to the past to understand your future. In the beginning of the film the protagonist starts off as Mona, a self-centered model oblivious to her surroundings, and its importance. She stood on the very ground where many of our ancestors were chained and held captive until voyage, yet all she did was smile inartistically into the camera. Later while exploring she found herself trapped in a slave trade, and she became delirious. As the slave masters proceeded to pull her back into the dungeon for branding she screamed “I’m not like them, I am not one of them”. I find that in today’s society without blatantly screaming it, the African American culture is doing just that, separating ourselves so we’re not like them.…
After we finished reading the book “The Natural”, we watched the movie. After finishing up the movie, I could tell that there were many differences between the book and movie. The first difference I noticed was that there was a change in many scenes. For example, there is no car scene with Memo and Roy in the movie, Roy is a right fielder instead of a left fielder in the movie, and also, Iris, Roy’s “girlfriend”, is not a grandmother in the movie like she is in the book. Another important difference was that in the movie, Iris has a teenage son that is revealed to be Roy’s son too, because Roy and Iris grew up together when they were younger. This changed the movie a lot for me, because I could tell that Iris and Roy were going to end up together,…
A film like The Mist (2007) comes as a prime example of being a postmodern film in the disaster movie cycle. Postmodern films attempt to avoid metanarrtive’s or narratives/stories that enforce old ideas we have seen in to many movies to count, postmodern films want to be inclusive and unique. Throughout the entire film there are many different examples of postmodern ideas, but the big three examples include the diverse cast of characters, the dark examination of religion and the films ending.…
This essay will take an in-depth look at the history of Hollywood during the late 60s and early 70s. This period of time is considered to have been a renaissance for American cinema, and was titled the ‘New Hollywood’ by cotemporary critics of the time. In order to understand the changes that Hollywood went through the late ‘60s, you first have to examine the preceding era of Hollywood filmmaking during the 30s and 40s. This was a period that is commonly referred to as Hollywood’s Golden Age; when the dream factories were in full swing and the audiences were in regular attendance. This period of time could be defined by a number of social, political or economic contexts, but it’s the filmmaking practices that were employed at the time which…
The film shows the mothers interacting more with the babies than the fathers. But the social interaction that fathers provide show a great insight to a community’s culture since a fathers’ roles can vary greatly depending on how they perceive gender roles. Hatti’s father appears in the film the most. It shows him taking her to a “mommy and baby” class, feeding her, and taking her a shower. At one point at a park, he puts her on a roller coaster and she ends up falling. Fathers are known to take higher risks with their children, which are important since mothers tend to cuddle their daughters more. Ponijao’s father did not appear in the film, but he did appear in the bonus features and got credit. Mari’s father is shown entertaining her while he talks on the phone.…
In the movie “Bernie”, we follow the story and between a Carthage, Texas funeral director Bernie Tiede, and his co-dependent relationship with a wealthy widow, Marjorie Nugent. As “Bernie” unfolds, we see the companionship turn for the worse as Ms. Nugent’s ill-temper causes Bernie to snap – and lands her dead in her freezer. This movie brings up some questions, specifically regarding image. After analysis, the question I keep coming back to is “Was Bernie genuine and sincere? Or was it all a façade?” Although Bernie committed a horrible crime, I believe the answer to this question is “yes”- Bernie was a genuine man.…
In every civilization that involves the human race, change is essentially inevitable. Most societies strive to make it so most people are positively benefited from these changes. Despite the efforts, some people are still negatively affected by the shifts in customs. We see numerous examples of people being both positively and negatively affected from the shift of hunter/gatherer life styles to more sedentary life styles. The text Worlds of History by Kevin Reilly and the film N!ai, the Story of a !Kung Woman display many examples of said scenario. The shift from a hunter/gatherer style to a sedentary style in Africa helped some people flourish, made it difficult for others, and affected men and woman in several different ways.…
