By: Karen Schindler In class we went over the cycle of meiosis, the sexual life cycle, and its stages. Meiosis has four stages which are, prophase I, metaphase I, anaphase I, and telophase I. In an adult before ovulation the oocyte goes back to meiosis forming a meiotic spindle of microtubules to segregate homologous chromosomes. When it reaches fertilization, the egg itself undergoes a second round of division segregating sister chromatids. Which is Prophase II, Metaphase II, Anaphase II, and Telophase II. In this article it discusses what occurs in the female, adult, and fetus during meiosis. It also mentions what can go wrong with meiosis and how it affects the human body. In females meiosis takes place over decades, …show more content…
After this has been completed meiosis is then arrested until ovulation many years later. In meiosis, prophase I two versions of homologous chromosomes pair up and exchange segments also known as crossing over. In crossing over two homologous of each chromosome exchange portions. during this exchange non sister chromatids that are next to each other exchange chromosome segments. Crossing over plays an important role in prophase …show more content…
It mentions mitosis and its cell division, meiosis, genetics, and some information on DNA which sums up the last few chapters we went over. Genetics do play an important role, because they are responsible for our development from a fertilized egg to a full grown adult. Just like in the chapter of foundations of genetics it shows us how genes influence traits. In this article it informs us about how people with down syndrome have the same genes as any other human being the only difference is that 1% extra. Genes have the power to control things such as a persons physical appearance, how the body ages, and the way we grow and develop. These genes are passed on from our parents. Going back to the chapter of DNA where it mentions that genes are made of DNA. As in the chapter of mitosis we reviewed Chromosomes and cell division and i mentioned in the beginning the article also covers that. The body grows by making new
