Academically wise, I believe that I’m a well-focused and diligent student who strives to achieve highly and make a huge effort to get all my work done on time with extraordinary quality. Last year I had sat the entrance exam for year nine but was unsuccessful to get my first preference Melbourne High School, although …show more content…
I had made it into Suzanne Cory High School. Although I am only halfway through the year, I’ve been able to distinguish a major difference between the workload and expectations from Suzanne Cory High School to my old school, Auburn High School. From this transition, the teachers have helped me achieve much more and I can see a major shift in grades for the better. I have still also been able to keep up the work to a high level and have fitted into the selective school’s expectation although I am aware that Melbourne High School will generally expect more, again I still believe I will be able to adapt to the new environment and workload with ease and comfort.
Melbourne High School is also well known for their students’ academic ability, but I’ve also seen and heard about the student’s ability in sports and music.
I have a great passion for sport and believe I’ll be able to express this passion at Melbourne High School through the various opportunities and sporting teams. I am greatly interested in the sports: soccer, table tennis, badminton and sprinting. With my previous school, I had represented them in interschool sports for soccer and badminton in the school team. I had passed both tryouts and with soccer, we were able to easily pass divisions and reach regions. I have also had past experience with music where I had private lessons for the piano for around two years which I believe will be handy and I can pick it up again easily. I had also been able to learn a four-chord song on the guitar as part of an assessment for music at school and from this, I wasn’t only able to learn about the song but many other parts of music as a whole. I had self-taught myself how to play the song through YouTube videos and practiced at home which I had really enjoyed and had widened my eyes for my enjoyment of music. From my experience, I believe the guitar was fun and would be something I would love to enjoy and pick up at Melbourne High School further through the participation of opportunities handed to
me.
I currently have a brother at Melbourne High School, at first, he wasn’t very interested going to a new school for a few reasons, but because of this he hadn’t really tried and didn’t achieve too high marks. He is now in year twelve and I’ve been able to see his change in attitude and interest towards school, he usually now comes home bragging about his high marks or achievements as part of the rugby team, I believe this is due to the influence of Melbourne High School and his surroundings, being teachers students or even facilities which had changed him for the better and I would love to have this experience to extend my abilities and potential.
This is why I would truly like to be admitted into Melbourne High School as I believe Melbourne High School would give me the opportunity to excel in untold areas from the aid of the teachers, students and the facilities provided by Melbourne High School and appreciate your consideration.
Academic Achievements: In my opinion, my greatest academic achievement was getting a place at a select entry school, although it wasn’t the greatest select entry school, I’ve been working hard since last year to achieve a place at Melbourne High. I had also participated in the Australian Maths Competition achieving proficiency, participated in the Berthe Mouchette Competition which was a French competition held at my previous school. At my previous school, there were also awards for students who displayed the school values presented at the end of each term where I had achieved an award of aspiration awarded by my food technology teacher.
Co-Circular Achievements: As I’ve only been at Suzanne Cory for only half a year, I haven’t had many opportunities to participate in many co-curricular activities. I had tried out for the soccer team but was only able to attend one of three training sessions and had missed the badminton tryouts due to injury. At the moment though I have registered for table tennis and I am waiting for further announcements. I had also been a part of a Photography class at Suzanne Cory which had lasted from the start of the year to now and had thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though I haven’t participated in many events at Suzanne Cory High School, in my first high school I was able to attend to many more. I had represented my school in many sporting events these consisting of soccer, table tennis, futsal and dodgeball. Although, my main achievement was in soccer where we were able to beat every team in the division and move onto regionals, unfortunately though we were unsuccessful into moving into the next round. My school had also hosted their own futsal tournament where I had gathered and captained my own team. For my great passion for soccer, I used to be enrolled in South Yarra Soccer Club for two years although I had to stop as I was getting caught up with school.
Family Association: I currently have a brother attending Melbourne High School in Year 12, Dylan Nguyen.
Consideration of Disadvantage: Less than a month ago I had been in a car accident with my whole family inside the car apart from my older brother. This accident may have caused trauma I am unaware of but had also left me with medical injuries where I had stitches on my head as well as a fractured foot. My family had also had multiple different injuries and we are all still recovering.
