Memento Movie Paper
Memento In the film Memento, written by director Christopher Nolan, the main character Leonard Shelby, is a confused and damaged man that wants the revenge for the murder of his wife. Lenny lives in his own world uniquely different from everyone else, the reason for this is his inability to store short term memory and convert into long term memory, as talked about in Chapter 6. Short-term memory is the capacity for holding a small amount of information in mind in an active, readily available state for a short period of time. The duration of short-term memory is believed to be in the order of seconds. In contrast, long-term memory indefinitely stores a seemingly unlimited amount of information. He lost his short term memory when knocked down trying to save his wife. This disability renders Lenny’s life into a repeatable lifestyle that forces him to start from scratch about every 15 minutes. The only source he has is to go back to is his notes and tattoos he discovers every morning on his body. It seems as though he only has his past memories, but the only memories we learn about in the movie is about Sammy Jenkins and the murder of his wife. I think that he lives in his own unique world because he is after the same objective every day and plays a detective role to find a fake person named John G. In the end/beginning Teddy the cop tells him the truth, but Lenny denies everything. This movie was very interesting and I really enjoyed watching this film. It kept me on my toes and entertained throughout, and I would recommend this movie to

In the story Watership Down by Richard Adams, Hazel, Fiver, and many of their friends leave their home to go find a new one, and it often gets quite interesting to see how the rabbits get out of some sticky situations. However, the movie I believe takes away some of that suspense. The movie is actually very different than the book in many ways but they are occasionally a lot alike, but in the movie there was a lot that stood out. A similarity of the book and the movie is what the Efrafa is described like and what it looks like. Like how the book said it was between the two bridle paths. I pictured the efrafa in my head and then when I saw the movie, it was a perfect match. A second similarity is the creepy felling of cowslips warren. In the movie I felt really creeped out at how weird the warren was and I felt the same way in the book. The third similarity I noticed is when Big Wig lures the fox to follow him and he runs into the Efrafa patrol. The fox ended up getting the Efrafa officer and the rabbits heard a squeal of a dying rabbit and thought it was Bigwig. One difference between the two is the stories of El-Arairah. In the book, there are more stories than there are in the movie. Like for example the story of Rowsby Woof in chapter 4. That never showed up in the movie which was kind of disappointing. Another difference is when Fiver has his visions. The visions in the movie are actually a lot more intense and thought out than the ones in the book. Like in part 1 when he has the vision of the warren getting destroyed, everything blends together and creates this really eerie feeling I never had when I was reading about the vision in the book. A third difference between the two is that the book has more detail on the characters. Like General Woundwort, in the story he seemed to be a lot more sinister than in the movie, but that could just be my opinion. He had been described a lot better. One thing that stood out to…

    Memento Film Analysis

The way Memento was edited is the thing that makes this film to a great degree unmistakable from different movies. Since the film has a section and non-straight structure, it is told in reverse with scenes hopping in fifteen-minute augmentations of story time. This happens until the end of the film really meets the start of the Leonard's story. Everything in color is in an opposite request grouping plot and every scene connotes fifteen minutes of story time, which is for the most part to what extent Leonard's memory keeps going. The converse request grouping scenes make up the principle plot of Leonard's examination to discover the man who murders his…

In the movie 12 Angry Men, you will find the power of influence and the effect it can have over a majority audience. Juror #8 who plays the protagonist role, is the only juror that votes not guilty in the initial round of deliberations. Fonda who plays juror #8 is faced with many challenges in trying to convince a room of jurors who feel strongly that the boy is guilty. The setting itself was not the best one, the room was hot, there was no air conditioning, and it was the hottest day of the year. Uncomfortable conditions, and several jurors who hold strong biases from past experiences made it a difficult task for a calm, fair, and rationalized discussion. Fonda who held the only vote for not guilty, remained calm, he did not waver, and held his conviction while the entire room attempted to convince him of their guilty verdict.…

I had been observing this guy for like a few days now. He is quite strange. I think he likes to wear long sleeves clothes cause I haven’t seen him wear short sleeves. I always saw him wear jeans or long pants. I don’t think he wants to show his skin or he feels insecure about it. He hangs out by the stairs of the building because the sun is very hot during lunch. He has two friends that he can really be himself. He doesn’t really talk to people. If people talk to him he only mostly give one word answer. He’s very anti-social in front of crowds.…

The Name Sake movie took place in both India and America. The differences between India and America are blatantly prevalent throughout the entire film. There are differences shown in culture, behavior, scenery and more. Although there are many differences shown throughout the movie, there are some similarities as well. The differences shown in the movie begin appearing when the father is in a cramped train with a huge lack of personal space, where as in America we always tend to have a comfortable amount of personal space. The train and the closeness of the passengers would be uncomfortable to an American. The clothing shown being worn by the Indian people is different from American clothing because it is more traditional. Laundry is being hung to dry on balconies throughout the city, which is very uncommon in America because most Americans use washing machines and dryers to clean and dry their clothes. The next difference is that these Indian people refer to themselves as “Bengalis” instead of how we refer to them in America as “Indians.” Next the movie shows a young Bengali woman, whose parents are arranging her marriage. Arranged marriage is not performed in American culture. The woman is married off to the chosen man and sent to live in America with him, leaving her entire family behind in India. This is not something that would happen In America. Once the newlywed couple arrives in New York, the weather is cold but the woman’s clothing is thin and not thick enough to keep her warm in the freezing weather. When they are speaking the woman speaks in Bengali language to him, not a common language in America like Spanish or English. Once she becomes pregnant and is in the hospital, she is shown in a hospital gown that only goes down to about her knees. She asks the nurse if they have a longer dress. This shows a difference in modesty between Bengali women and American women, in American culture the dress length would be…

Action film posters usually follow specific codes and conventions, especially within their visual codes. Dark colours are commonly used but with muses of red or orange colours, this helps imply danger and blood within the film. Within my chosen action poster ‘Crank’ its main colour is black which portrays the characters dark times ahead in the film, however it also has the use of reds and oranges which gives the audience the representation of blood, fire and danger. This has a significant affect on the audience because it shows them a brief but strong image of what to expect in the film overall because it sets the tone of the film. The key image is usually mid action shots of the main character holding a gun, as shown in my action poster ‘Crank’ with Jason Statham holding a gun; this signifies action because immediately the audience think the use of guns is going to be common factor within the film, this is an example of iconography. The foreground image also follows codes and conventions because it shows action, in my…

In every society there are flaws, and throughout time people have dreamed of creating a perfect society; however, when attempt to rid their society of flaw they, in turn, create other problems that are possibly worse than the flaws they are trying to eliminate. The puritan society did just that. In an attempt to remove all sin and crime from the world, the puritans created extremely harsh punishments for any sin or crime committed. The fraudulent society the puritans created, depicted by Hawthorne in The Scarlet Letter, as well as the horrible society that was created in Lord of the Flies by William Golding deliver insight into all of the problems that people experience when trying to self-govern themselves and the people around them. In both The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the authors suggest that ignoring the flaws in one’s own society will lead to a deterioration of morality.…

    12 angry men paper

The movie “12 Angry Men” is about a murder trial set in the mid 1900’s when the American legal system had very different rules from what it has now. The trial is about a 16 year old boy who supposedly murdered his father late one night in New York City. He was from a slum, with a history of problems with the law, including knife fights. The jury is made up of twelve white men who are supposed to deliberate about the boy’s fate when he is Latino. In the beginning of the movie it’s very clear that eleven of the twelve jurors have already decided that he was guilty, the only one who said not guilty is juror number eight. Juror number eight believes that you can’t send someone to die without even talking about the case first. As the movie goes on they discuss the different parts of the case and one by one the jurors begin to change their vote to not guilty. The first thing they discuss is the knife that was used to kill the father, then they discuss the time it took the only man on the floor below to get to the door after he heard the body hit the floor. After that they went on to deliberate more about previous things talked about, until finally they talked about the women who actually viewed the killing through a passing L train. One of the jurors remembers that she had indents on the sides of her nose indicating that she wore glasses, so they come to the conclusion that she couldn’t of seen anything since she wasn’t wearing her glasses while lying in bed. Once they finally call for a last vote they come to the verdict of acquitting the boy. All twelve jurors finally agree on the decision of not guilty.…

Memento (2001), a film that was written and directed by Christopher Nolan, has captivated the attention of movie and puzzle enthusiasts everywhere. Some may call it a Drama or Mystery, or even a Thriller or a Neo-Noir film, whatever the case is, this film fits most, if not all, of these categories. Memento is a film about a man, Leonard Shelby who lives his life with Anterograde Amnesia which leaves him incapable of making new memories. He spends the time in this film putting pieces of a puzzle together that will hopefully lead him to find the man who raped and killed his wife. Christopher Nolan takes us through a crazy journey that involves twists and turns, Fear and Anxiety and even a feeling of Paranoia that leaves us questioning who we should really trust in the film. This psychological mystery allows us to see the film as neo-noir because of the flawed protagonist which is reflected in the main character, Leonard. With the disability our main character and narrator has, it might give some viewers a feeling of uneasiness and may even not trust him entirely which gives the feeling of paranoia in not knowing who in the film is telling us the truth and who is lying to us. The story is told in a confusing way, if one were to not pay attention for a short period of time, it may be certain that you will be lost in the film. One has to truly pay up most attention in order to fully process everything that is going on, one viewing may not even be enough, a second viewing may help us catch things that were previously missed or even hidden in plain sight, but the film keeps us with the anxiety of wanting to know what happens next which allows this film to catch our attention even after one viewing.…
