ENG 221
Abstract
According to Batten, Donna (2010), “Memorandum or memo is an informal record, in the form of a brief written note or outline, of a particular legal transaction or document for the purpose of aiding the parties in remembering particular points or for future reference.” (Page 41).

Memo Evaluation
For the week two individual assignments, I chose a memo from the University of Phoenix Virtual Organizations’ intranet site which is the Riordan Manufacturing: China Relocation Memo located under Finance and Accounting; communications. was written by Hugh McCauley wrote this memo to the following personnel: Charles Williamson, Dale Edgel, Lowell Bradford, Clyde Cousins, Maria Trinh, and Robert Lord. The memo was meant as a general communication to inform those individual stated above that the relocation of the China operations to the city of Shanghai will result in insignificant cost savings, will provide the operations with more substantial urban infrastructure and will put them into a better position market and ship their Chinese products throughout Asia and Europe.
Organization
The organizational structure of the Riordan Manufacturing China Relocation memo was consistent with the configuration and attributes of a standard memo. No confusing words and long sentences that restraint the reader understanding of the memo when submitted. The memo uses a clear structure that summarize the entire memo major points. The only thing I can suggest for improvement is the headings at the top of the first page. The sender should send a memo to the one that is in higher authority and carbon copy (CC) to the rest that is involve. The date should also be included after the CC tab.
Clarity
Clarity is the key to understand the very content when reading a memo. Riordan Manufacturing China Relocation memo has absolute clarity about the memo has to do with the reader because the first sentence of the memo already explains its purpose and the second-sentence outline the main parts of the memo that normally complete the first paragraph.
Tone
The tone use in this memo is simple that the reader could easily understand the nature of the communication. The memo has clear and concise phrases that remain consistent in the entire paragraph.
Writing Style This memo is written as continuous text that is organized into paragraphs, and it use block format with single-spaced text which all professional correspondence documents use. Also, the bullets in the outline are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive.
How you reacted to the memo The Riordan Manufacturing China Relocation memo is a good memo because of a clear statement of purpose and precise information about what the reader needs to know. The only concern about this memo is the headings at the top of the first page. A good memo should have five headings which are the To, From, CC, Date (month day, year), and subject.

Dear Instructor Fisher, according to Google’s definition search, the idea of memorandums came to the English language as most words have, from Latin roots. It originated as the term “memorable”, this term in its original use was as an adjective rather than our interpretation of it now to be a noun. The purpose of a memorandum also commonly known as a memo is used in the similar fashion as it had been at the time of its origination, which is to make note/record of something for future reference. These documents are generally written to be a short informal though sometimes formal note, reminder, or advisement. Memos are generally used as a way to document an incident in a professional setting and advance through the chain of command as a means…

You are the coordinator of staff development for Imperial Oil. It has been recently announced that Imperial Oil is moving its headquarters from Toronto to Calgary. The news has been greeted positively by employees, but a few are unhappy while others already working in the Calgary office are unsure how well the amalgamation of the two offices with their different cultures will go. Recognizing the feeling of uncertainty, you decide to hold a series of corporate team-building retreats shortly after the headquarters move to Calgary. The retreat will be led by the Great Canadian Adventure Company. Employees will meet in downtown Calgary at 8:00 a.m. and buses will pick them up and take them to the Sylvan Lake area. There, they will spend the day on team-building like map-reading exercises that will require employee teams to find their way through a wooded area to a “home base” where lunch will be served. The group will return to downtown to Calgary by 7:00 p.m.…
