I AM WRITING THIS LETTER ON THE 30TH OF APRIL 2012 ON A WARM SUNNY DAY IN HOUSTON, TEXAS. BY THE TIME YOU READ THIS LETTER I WILL HAVE LONG PASSED AND HOPEFULLY MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT LIKE WOULD BE LIKE IN 2113; I AM NOT EVEN SURE YOU WOULD STILL USE A COMPUTER TO WRITE LETTERS LIKE THIS ANYMORE. I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU WHAT IT’S LIKE OR WHAT IT WAS LIKE DURING THE TIME I WAS AROUND.
Currently in 2012; life travels fast; everything seems to be like information …show more content…
overload with the use of iPhone, iPADs and general technological advances. I still drive a very normal; but nice car and would think that will be the case for many years to come. I have a two year old who plays with toy trains; but also knows how to play games on my iPAD; which is somewhat surprising. I enjoy playing golf and traveling the world; which I have done a fair share of. I have worked and lived in Egypt for nearly three years; I have also lived in Canada; which was really cold. At one point in time I even worked in the Caribbean in St. Croix; which wasn’t as nice as it sounds. I believe are customs are pretty straight forward; have lots of BBQs on the weekends with friends and family, go to church as often as possible; but not as much as I should. I hope that one day I will look back on my life and know that I accomplished a lot; but I am sure that is yet to be defined and hopefully as my wife and I have more children they will help shape my legacy too.
At the present time when it comes to “Morality and Decision-Making” , people here make every attempt try to take care of each other as much as possible, and we do this through charitable actions and through general good deeds.
As an example, when a natural disaster like an earth quake or hurricane strikes, people come together to provide supplies, emotional support, and medical attention to those in need. We also work together to rebuild the areas that have been hit hard like after Hurricane Katrina hit the New Orleans area. Rather than expect others to fend for themselves or live in unsafe conditions, we believe that we are an international community who must assist others in rebuilding their lives. Even though there is a lot of war, famine, crime, we still believe that people are good and the decision to help others, in spite of the horrors that go on, is a decision that must be made. For in helping others, we ultimately help ourselves as well as I am sure you still do in your …show more content…
time. When it comes to Happiness; it should be or it is defined to me as a state of contentment from experiencing life’s simple enjoyments. As an example the ability to walk and run; something people take for granted every day. I had a friend who used to ride dirt bikes; but he no longer does because he got into an accident and is now paralyzed. However, despite this major setback he still found a lot of happiness being alive. I realize after being around him I was very luck to still be able to have the use of my legs and body functions. I no longer take some of the things every typically takes for granted and try to live my life as happy as possible.
Macbeth
I believe this is amongst the best-known Shakespeare’s plays and is probably one of his shortest tragedies, which are believed to have been written between 1603 and 1606; which was a long time ago by any ones standards.
This play has been frequently performed at both amateur and professional levels and has been adapted for opera, film, books, stage and screen; but I am not sure if you still see it in your society today.. Often regarded as representative, the play tells of the dangers of the lust for power and the betrayal of friends. For the plot Shakespeare drew loosely on the historical account of “King Macbeth of Scotland” by Raphael Holinshed and that by the Scottish philosopher Hector Boece. There are many superstitions centered on the belief the play is somehow “cursed” and many actors will not mention the name of the play aloud, referring to it instead as “The Scottish
Play.”
Guernica by Pablo Picasso
[pic]
Pablo Picasso painted this work of art Guernica in reaction to the German and Spanish Nationalist attack on the town of the same name. On the day Guernica was attacked in 1937, the Germans pounded the town, which had no military association for three hours with more than a hundred thousand pounds of explosives and bombs. The bloodshed was overwhelming, and the Germans found no regret in killing men, women, and even small children. Picasso depicts these horrors in his painting. Perhaps the most memorable of the images is of the mother on the left-side of the painting, who is holding her dead child and screaming upward as though she is looking up at god. Even though the bombing of Guernica was awful, it seems that no lessons were understood. This painting is in the time capsule as a reminder that war is horrible and eventually the world must remember the lessons from history and hopefully you never have to experience this type of situation.
I seriously doubt you even know who Vanilla Ice is; but he became a household word for a while, not because of his talent, but because of the copyright infringement that occurred in 1990 when it came to light that he had sampled Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure” without consent or license. Ice Ice Baby hit number one on the charts in the United States and Vanilla Ice became the one ‘under pressure’. What really got him into trouble was when Vanilla Ice altered the rhythm of the baseline thinking he would thereby avoid any question of credit, royalties, license or even permission. This case never went to court as it was clear that Vanilla Ice had stolen the sample without permission. He settled out of court with Queen and David Bowie for an undisclosed but very likely very high amount. Ice Ice Baby has been released in many different versions, since then, with all of the legal procedures followed. However, with all that set aside it was a real One-Hit-Wonder that really stood out when I was a child… If iTunes is still around you should buy a copy of it.
In 1946, a banker named Andy Dufresne which was played by Tim Robbins. In this film he is convicted of a double murder, even though he stubbornly proclaims his innocence. He's sentenced to a life term at the Shaw shank State Prison in Maine, where another lifer, Ellis "Red" Redding which is played by Morgan Freeman one of my favorite actors of all time, picks him as the new recruit most likely to crack under the pressure. The ugly realities of prison life are quickly introduced to Andy: a corrupt warden sadistic guards and inmates who are little better than animals, willing to use rape or beatings to insure their dominance. However, the movie has a great ending when he finally digs his way out with a shaping rock; but he also is such a good banker he makes off with the wardens hard earned cash. If you can still rent movies; this is worth watching even though it’s not available in 3D…
I figured I better leave you something from the past that has really changed our way of life; even though I believe it’s the iPAD; I felt a Samsung Galaxy would work too. The Samsung Galaxy intends to expand their Galaxy family of devices, and this time around, it would be the Galaxy Tab range that will see an increase in the family member count. They currently have two new models of the Galaxy Tab 2; one of them has a 7″ display, while the other has a far larger 10″ display. I think it’s a pretty cool device and it represents this time period really well.
