Memorable Holiday
My Favorite Holiday

Holidays are when family come together to spend time together. Everyone is happy to see one another and catch up on recent news. My favorite holiday to spend with my family is Labor Day.

Many families all over the country celebrate Labor Day. Adolescents may not understand the importance of this day. There is more to this day then barbequing and family coming over to eat. Labor Day is very significant to veterans and especially America. Labor Day came about over one hundred years ago. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

My father is a retired veteran so we like to cook for Labor Day. Every year my father and I take a trip to the Scot Air Force Base. Here we visit the Commissary to purchase the meat that we're going to cook for the holidays. I really enjoy going every year because it's a long car ride and I get to relax and listen to my music. The Commissary has tax free produce so obviously it's convenient for us to shop there. We can buy a lot of meat and still save money. Also, you get a firsthand view of working people in the service living everyday life. A lot of people come with their family to shop just like us for the holidays.

Labor Day is by far my favorite holiday. It gives tribute to the hard working people that made our country a better place. Also, this day lets them spend time with their families and take a day off work. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate this day, as long as you pay tribute.

My father is a retired veteran. The branch of service he joined was the Army. For m any years my father has traveled the world and has also seen war. Unfortunately, in combat he jumped out of a helicopter and injured his thigh. The injury was so bad that he had to resign from his duties. After this event, he became disables and wasn't able to go back to the Army.

As a veteran I can say one of the biggest issues we have faced was that of readjustment to a civilian lifestyle from a military lifestyle. Service members are used to order and the feeling that they are part of something great as well as knowing they have the support system there when they most need it. That support system is that of their fellow brothers and sisters they serve alongside with. When a veteran returns home they feel…

It’s just my opinion, but Veterans Day is very important. It’s important because, veterans risked everything in their lives to fight for us. They helped us gain freedom. Today they still fight for us. Most of them don’t want to leave their families behind and sometimes they don’t make it back home. It’s very important to show them that we care for them and we are grateful for them, so therefore we give this day. We have to give them our love and respect because if it wasn’t for them we’d be lost…

“A day on which those who died in active military service are remembered, traditionally observed on May 30 but now officially observed on the last Monday in May” is how Google defines Memorial Day from the book. However, everyone has their own experiences and ideas of what this American holiday means to them; not every word or phrase can be clearly defined like they do in dictionaries. For some students, Memorial Day means a day off from school; or a day to play video games, or binge watch an entire TV show. Or, if you’re in the school band, it means long parades out in the blistering sun while you feel sweat drip down to your uniform, soaking it and making you feel even more uncomfortable in the position of attention. Though for one of my…
