Essay 3 Men and Women In the story Yellow Wallpaper reflects on the period of when men dominated the women. I feel like the really meaning of this story is hidden. Charlotte writing portrays men, women and society. It feels like in the story her trying to control her life and everything that was going on around her. In the poem “Barbie Doll” written by Marge Piercy; she describes the life of a female, with physical features outside the measurement that society thinks is attractive. Once anyone reads the title “Barbie Doll; it plays in your mind the mold the society provides the female to be like. These two stories are totally different; Yellow Wallpaper makes think that all women should be submissive and “Barbie Doll” is showing you what society wants to think how every woman should be. They both use society and are trying to show you want society tries to think about the situations in the world.
In the beginning of the Yellow Wallpaper; Charlotte who is the author and the narrator; starts us off by talking about moving into a house that looks like a haunted house to her. Her husband and her sister in law are all in the house together. The wife who is a patient of the husband has moved her to cure her sickness; but she claims that there is nothing wrong with her. Every day since she is been in the house; she keeps looking at the tore yellow wallpaper. She finds it interesting; and writes about it. In Barbie doll it starts out with talking about a little girl and what little girls played with and the she was hit with Puberty. And then her classmates started making fun of her because of her big nose and her fat legs. The girl was healthy, smart and very possessed. The girl in the story was a very bright girl but the society doesn’t care if the girl is bright all they care about is the way they look. The name carries a lot of meaning because a Barbie doll has long been an icon in society. Although it is a
