It was created by Lawrence Ingram, around the idea that young men need ideals to look up to, and guidance to lead them into becoming better men for themselves as well as for their community. “This organization was originally created in June of 2012,” says organization member, Clonie Ambroise. “It was only recently that Men of Integrity was brought to attention here at Memorial.” With over 150 members, the organization
hopes to expand themselves even more, and extend their help beyond Memorial. “MOI isn’t just an organization held within the walls of Memorial. It’s meant to branch out into the community.” Javaun Butler commented. “We were even thinking of assigning some members as mentors for the boys in younger age groups. We believe it would help guide them and encourage them to do better with their lives.” Their most recent induction took place on October 4th, where the members gathered at Memorial. This induction ceremony welcomes all new young men to the organization, as well as gives them a run through of the Men of Integrity basic principles and teaching them a code of honor. This oath is what the Men of Integrity live by, something that binds them all together. “It’s a welcoming ceremony, and a way to express our most important principles. We have motivational speakers come by to talk to us after we take our oath in front of everyone’s parents.” Clonie Ambroise said. The induction ceremony and organization are exclusively for boys, but they plan to expand their horizons, and begin an all female group that will guide young ladies into becoming respectful women as well. Until that happens, the organization’s main priority is to lead young men down a road of success.
