First of all, guys look in the mirror and they hate the way their physique looks. Men often compare their body to friends and family, and realize that they are not as healthy as them. They engage in hours at the gym working out, so they can build up their biceps, triceps, and …show more content…
abdomen, but after a few weeks they feel frustrated with the results , and chastise themselves by doing longer strenuous workouts. Men presume that vigorous workouts will change their appearance. People often tell them that they look good, but they refuse to believe them. Some men even resort to corrective surgery to fix their weight problems because they feel fat. (Donatelle 456).
Second, men who feel that their appearance is atrocious start eating unhealthy foods.
For one thing, men start fad diets that consist of protein powder shakes, sugar busters, carbohydrate diets, and diet pills. Fad diets never work, and are damaging; therefore, men refrain from getting the nutrition that their body needs relying on these particular diets. Men need fruits, vegetables, meat and grains to maintain a well balanced diet; furthermore, it is essential for men to eat nutritional foods in order to reach their desired weight goal. Another unhealthy eating habit that is now common in men is anorexia and bulimia. Men who struggle with anorexia starve themselves while men who experience bulimia eat too much and make themselves vomit. These disorders are severe and life threating to their body, and men should seek professional help if they are experiencing these
disorders.
Finally, men who acknowledge negative body images exploit low self esteem. They have a tendency to isolate themselves from the public, and never go to social events or apply for new jobs, for they fear that people would criticize their appearance, and not accept them for who they are. Donatelle pointed out that having a healthy body image is a key indicator of positive self esteem, and men who have low self esteem face distorted body image, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and shame (456). These men never get married because of their low self esteem and fear of meeting new people.
In conclusion, men should realize that all men have different body shapes, and that they are not born with a perfect body physique. Guys should learn positive ways to deal with their body images if they are unhappy with their appearance, and learn to accept themselves for who they are. It is not healthy for men to experience negative body effects such as, body hate, unhealthy diets, and low self esteem.
