SAFETY AND HEALTH IN ACTION:
CHEMICAL SAFETY
SESSION DESCRIPTION
Cleaning plays an essential role in our daily lives. Beyond the obvious aesthetic benefits, cleaning protects the environment and keeps it free of harmful germs and rodents as well as extends the life of our personal possessions.
Many cleaning products used in both the home and the workplace contain hazardous and corrosive chemicals. When you work with them on a daily basis, it is easy to forget just how dangerous these products can be. If not used, stored or disposed of properly; these hazards may affect the health and safety of persons and others around them.
This proposed training workshop is intended to provide a framework for handling cleaning products safely. It will examine the issues relating to preparation methods and highlight the importance of adhering to manufacturers’ specifications on labels.
As an added bonus, the workshop will also seek to increase participants’ awareness of green cleaning methods and expel myths surrounding these techniques.
