Mental Health Professional Ethics Case Study
The role of the mental health professional is to assist people in developing themselves both as an individual and their ability to keep and maintain healthy relationships. There are two ways the counselor accomplishes this, by creating and maintain healthy boundaries and by entering into the relationship with the stated point: the client’s needs come first (Association, American Psychological, 2016). To assist in guiding decision making, all of the accrediting mental health association have created a body of ethics which all member agrees to abide by (Corey, Schneider Corey, Corey, & Callanan, 2015). The American Psychological Association ethical guidelines and the laws of the practitioner’s state can help the clinician to develop a good understanding
of the consequences of their action (Corey, Schneider Corey, Corey, & Callanan, 2015). Examples of counselor unethical conduct can be seen in popular films and T.V. shows and are a great example of how not to behave with a client.
