Mental Health Proposal

The Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health (IDHS-DMH) seeks a grant of $2,500 from the American College Health Foundation (ACHF) for support of our Healthy Brain Program. We will be very grateful for the support that we will receive and think this new proposal may be of comparable interest to your Department. We think this project is very much aligned with the ACHF goals in targeting college kids suffering from mental diseases, to implement the prevention of mental Illness and the reduction of mortality and morbidity associated with the disease in the communities addressed by the Office of Health Promotion. This will occur in the following manner: The project aims to educate and empower families, communities and college students to take possession of their health, increase their knowledge of choices pertaining to health lifestyle and use available resources to prevent suicide and mental illnesses as a result of discrimination, stigma and depression. The Healthy Brain Events include: Educational workshops led by experts, speak out loud classes, voice your problems away workshops, Walking group, Access to great local resources and Support from those who understand. One on one psychologist appointments, Buddy system programs, marketing of the celebrity speaking their stories to the college kids, and much more. Therefore, the project will take one year to implement, resulting in incurring $50,000 dollars in expenses and provide concrete fruitful results in helping to reduce mental illness by at least 25% over the period of 2 to 5 years starting with DuPage County, Illinois and gradually expanding to one million Americans in Illinois and across the nation via local and online
