Setting
The participants in this study will be recruited from the psychiatric units in the Silver Hill Hospital. Silver Hill is a nationally recognized, non-profit hospital for the treatment of psychiatric and addictive disorders and is located in New Canaan, Connecticut treating over 3,500 patients annually which contains 1500 beds. By employing this sampling technique, each participant has an equal and independent chance of being chosen, this method will help the researcher to obtain a representative sample, because the use of random techniques eliminates the possibility of researcher bias on a conscious and unconscious level, and the researcher can estimate the degree of sampling error (Polit & Beck, 2012). However, this procedure is expensive and inconvenient, it may be impractical, and the researcher has no guarantee that all randomly chosen subjects will participates in the study (Polit & Beck, 2012). The participants will be randomly assigned to receive CBT plus treatment as usual or treatment as usual
