I will like to study mental health nursing because I feel that will lead me directly to one of the most emotionally fulfilling careers, as well as, giving me the opportunity to help people's mental well-being and their physical health. It will give me the opportunity to study something that involves both academic and practical study, which I feel would suit me best. I hold a degree in public health and during my course, I did a research on schizophrenia.…

In Psychology there are so many different careers that have gained my interest because I love learning how people function, behave, and how the brain works. The first career that truly gained my full interest is Neuropsychologist. Neuropsychologists are the ones that explore not only the brain system but they also explore behavior and the relationship between the two. This is something that interests me more than I can put into words. One of the reasons I have so much interest in this type of career is because I myself have fetal alcohol syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as well as learning disorder. Being able to study the cognitive functions of the brain such as attention, language and memory I believe will eventually help me to understand more of my disabilities and how to work past them. A Neuropsychologist is also able to evaluate people who have various types of nervous system disorders. They work closely with doctors including neurologists. Illnesses, injuries, and diseases of the brain and nervous system can affect the way a person feels, thinks, and behaves and some of the symptoms may call for a neuropsychologist. Those symptoms are memory difficulties, mood disturbances, learning difficulties as…

Currently I am pursing an associate degree in Mental Health Technology. Though it is not absolutely necessary to have a degree to be in this field, those mental health facilities that are looking for individuals to become a part of their organization are going for prospects that have completed a two-year program or training from an accredited institution. This lets the employer know that the individual at least meets the minimum requirements and skills for the position they are interested in. An associate degree in MHT requires classes in mental health, general psychology, biology, intervention, substance and alcohol abuse, as well as numerous prerequisites and core curriculum.…

What is considered to be one of the most important historical events in the history of the human services profession, I would have to say the New Deal and the Social Security Act of 1935. The Social Security Act of 1935 created pensions for workers, unemployment compensation, aid to mothers with dependent children, and aid to people with disabilities (Martin, 2014, 30). Social security has always been a universal problem. This economic security encompass the way families and individuals have some income assurance, for people who are longer able to work because age, people who are unable to work due to a disability, if the breadwinner dies, and if a person faces involuntary unemployment. The principle of the social insurance was to minimize…
* high workload and pressure facing social workers, leads to poor quality of work and bad practice * mistakes in the fields of child protection can lead to significant human consequences and to critical attention from the public and media * there is less career ladder for social workers compared with other sectors * Poor decision making. What could be improved: * training must be improved * decision making must be improved * response to crises must be rapid * Greater creativity in exploring solutions * The availability of different perspectives in understanding families * Better responsiveness to families * The senior management to continue to seek out the way good practice enabled and implemented * Supervisions to be carried out to monitor individual competence and Consideration should be given to strengthen the social workers response to problems * Government to issue more funding in social working, this will encourage people to consider career in social working 2. Psychiatrist: The important aspect of a Psychiatrist:Psychiatrist are doctors who look after people with mental health problems, such as…
Hello Dr. Aaron Oberman and fellow classmates. I’m excited to be taken this course because I’m almost at the finish line of completing my degree. I have been working in social services for almost 15 years helping adults meeting their needs while aiming at becoming self-sufficient. I enjoy my job, but I’m burned out, meaning my job no longer brings me the same satisfactions as it did 15 years ago. I reevaluated my life giving consideration to my age, family and happiness and decided it was time for a career change. As an undergrad student, I recall an instructor telling us in life most people will have a job and a career. Social Services is currently my job and school counseling will be my career. With age I have learned helping others…
My main goal in life is to make an impact on America’s children. I am currently in my senior year of studying Psychology at Philander Smith College. I then plan to go on to graduate school at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, College of Social Work. Now, some ask “Why study psychology for four years then get a masters degree in Social Work”. The answer is very simple to me, child psychologist and psychiatrist true enough help children, but it’s mainly behind the desk. I truly believe that today’s children need hands on interaction.…

I have worked with diverse communities at Horizons, in prior jobs, and through volunteer capacities for over 30 years. While I have always been passionate about social justice and mental health, outside of my personal experiences, and some limited volunteering, I have had limited exposure to work with marginalized persons. This is precisely why I am currently entering the mental health field, and seeking to work with such populations. Horizons has provided a rich experience because most of my clients are on the lower end of the socioeconomic scale, and come from diverse backgrounds.…
According to the assessment, my highest score of 34 was in the category Artistic, next was Social with 32 and my last 2 categories tied at 11 in the categories Investment, and Enterprise(National Center for O*NET Development). In tying this into my Job zone assessment, my results show that I am willing to add more education in order to have a specific career. By choosing to add more to my education, I found my top career choices to be a Mental Health counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Counseling Psychologist(National Center for O*NET Development). This does not surprise me considering I have been pursuing a career in mental health. It is a good exercise to keep your plan in focus. This is important because as many career-counseling theorists suggest, a career path can often change as life changes (Niles and Bowlsbey, 2013).…
