Throughout history, different economic system have influenced specific nation, religion, and people. These system include manorialism during the Middle Age in Western Europe, mercantilism during the Age of Exploration, and communism in the post World War ll China. Manorialism is the system by which the Lord of the Manor exploited the serfs or tenants who worked on his estate. The Manor House was the main dwelling on the Lord's estate. Manorialism represent the economic portion of feudalism where all aspects of life were centered on the lord’s manor including the village, church, farm land and the mill. Countries adopted trade policies that favored the flow of wealth from the colonies to the mother country. Mercantilism revolves around trade and was adopted by powerful European countries. Exports are goods sent for sale outside a colony or country earns money. Imports are goods brought into a colony or country that cost money. Great Britain followed the most cost effective trade routes to increase profits. The Triangular Trade routes across the Atlantic were made possible by the establishment of the 13 Colonies in Colonial America and their surplus of raw materials. The policy of Mercantilism favored England because the raw materials from the colonies were used to make different products in England. In document 5, the premise of Triangular Trade was that the different regions would trade goods that they had in abundance in exchange for those goods which were scarce in their own region. The raw materials and natural resources such as sugar, tobacco, rice and cotton that were found in the 13 colonies. Ships from England would go to Africa carrying iron products, cloth, trinkets, beads, and guns. The ships traded these goods for slaves, gold and spices such as pepper. Then ships from Africa would go to the American Colonies using the Middle Passage. The slaves were exchanged for goods from the Americas, destined for the slave plantations. They rejected the principle of private ownership, which they considered a motivation for greed and competition. They also sought to return control of the economy to the people. The transition from capitalism to communism was to be led by the communist government, which would act as an economic steward on behalf of the people. Despite the noble aims of Marx and Engels, it has been easy for corrupt governments to abuse this and exploit the people they are meant to serve. Before World War ll The people of China were unhappy with imperial rule. Their unhappiness led to revolution and a civil war. Chiang Kai shek was a Nationalist and an Anti Communist. He led the military of China in the 1920s and helped allied powers that defeated the Japanese in WWll. When the Nationalists lost China to the Communists, Chiang maintained the republic by moving it to the island of Taiwan where he established economic development and political stability. Once Japan Was Defeated civil the Civil War resumed. Nationalist forces outnumbered Mao's Communist, but Communists had supporters among China's peasants. Rural Chinese peasants had been oppressed by brutal landlords, high taxes, and policies of the corrupt government. Communists promised to take Land from the landlords and distribute it to peasants. By 1949 Communists had driven the Nationalist entirely from China.
