This is because of they believed that high school students lack in maturity and have low vocabulary jargon. When reading Shakespeare, the minds of the reader are expanded due to the extensive vocabulary and the modern english that Shakespeare's provides. Based on what Shakespeare.com said, high schoolers are a lot more mature than popular society is willing to give them credit for, especially when they are presented with a situation that calls them to act mature. In other words, a student in high school would act mature if he sees that everyone else is being mature and see that the teacher really keeps a straight face and demonstrate how serious they should take the play in order to understand what's going on. When I was taught the “The Merchant of Venice” my teacher made everyone in the class sign a permission slip. When he gave them out, I figured that the play was going to display some inappropriate content but at the same time it just reinforced how serious we needed to take play. At first my classmates reacted to some scenes display in the movie, but then they got used to it and actually started to pay attention to the dialogue.
