Romeo had fell in love with someone other than her at the party. While they were at the party, Mercutio also added that there are more girls other than Rosaline. Mercutio, once again persuaded Romeo to look past Rosaline and find someone else. He brought Romeo to the party, so he would have never met Juliet if Mercutio did not insist him to go.
Additionally, Mercutio was the reason that Tybalt got killed. Tybalt had started a duel between Mercutio and himself. Thus, Tybalt had stuck Mercutio initially killing Mercutio. When Romeo finds out that Tybalt had killed Mercutio, his dearest friend, he killed Tybalt. Romeo killing Tybalt was revenge on him for killing Mercutio. Romeo was the last man standing and basically had to take full responsibility for the blood bath. If Tybalt and Mercutio were not so hot headed they both would still be alive, and Romeo would not have been banished.
At the party, Mercutio had left Romeo alone to mingle on his own. Which resulted in him finding Juliet, and falling in love at first sight. If Mercutio would have never left him, they probably would both be alive, because they were not going to die for each other if they never met. It would be more likely that Romeo would have fell in love with Rosaline if he was not by himself and got distracted with Juliet. Everyone died simply because of Mercutio.
On the other hand, Mercutio was only really used for comic relief.
He would be in a scene, and would just speak nonsense or nothing that pertained to the topic. Additionally, Mercutio would often tease Romeo, and made puns and tell silly jokes. Mercutio even says his last words with comic fashion. Mercutio had made a pun about his wound. Mercutio couldn’t have done anything, he was far too silly and distracting to be essential to the story. When Mercutio was first introduced in the story, he was mocking Romeo for being a hopeless romantic. Romeo was explaining his love, he appeared to be very genuine and poetic. On the other hand, Mercutio’s response was not sentimental at all. With Mercutio, nothing can be taken seriously.
Mercutio was indeed the person responsible for all of the deaths in the story. In fact, there would still be a feud if it wasn’t for the help of Mercutio. So more people would have probably died if the feud was still going on. If Mercutio didn’t force Romeo to go the party, then Romeo wouldn’t have met Juliet. If they wouldn’t have met they wouldn’t have fell in love, which initially made them die. If they weren’t dead, then the feud would still be
occurring.
In conclusion, Mercutio is responsible for all the deaths in Romeo and Juliet because this whole story is based off of Mercutio’s actions and reactions. His actions changed Romeo’s and Juliet’s life. To go even deeper, there would be no story to tell if Mercutio wasn’t in the story. He may not have killed everyone physically, but his actions gave people motif to kill. Mercutio was used more than comic relief too. For instance, I believe Shakespeare made Mercutio die in the story, because he started to become more important than Romeo and Juliet.
