Mercutio's Death In Romeo And Juliet
When Mercutio died, his friend flew into a rage and killed his executioner. I believe there were many characters at fault. Including those who don’t make an appearance, but are mentioned. The story starts with, ‘Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona, where we lay our scene… ’ (Shakespeare, 1597). This feud, between the two households, started a chain reaction, without this sequence of events taking place, Mercutio probably would’ve lived to see another day. This feud also caused paranoia and strife between citizens and members of the two families, Montague and Capulet, alike. Romeo and Juliet is based on this feud, which would make you think Mercutio’s death was caused by this same feud. The statement I made at the beginning …show more content…
Was there nothing he could’ve done to stop Mercutio’s demise; no sword he could’ve used to cut the words between two foes? Who was he to do nothing while the quarrel took place? Who was he to stay fixated on a single spot, using only his words to end a brawl before blood was drawn? What did his words do? I accuse Benvolio of being a bystander, of doing little to nothing, to stop a fight before someone was hurt. Tybalt was a man, who throughout the play between star-crossed lovers, killed another before his time. He felt humiliated by Romeo, and he failed to see Romeo in any other light. Tybalt called Romeo out, but his life, too ended abruptly. I cannot defend his actions, for he did deliver the final blow, nor can I justify his reasoning. I cannot say for sure whether or not he truly meant to hit Mercutio, but he did. With his rapier he ended a life, this is unforgivable, yet in the end he got his vengeance, Romeo is dead. Romeo, can he go by any other name and not be accused. Romeo, the one who tried to save a life. Romeo, a name that the heavens sing. Romeo, a man who if not for a feud that took place before his time would still have his best friend. I can’t say Romeo did nothing wrong, for he did kill people, but I can say he tried to end a fight before it could carry on; I can say he

Mercutio is rational. He says that love will change people, making them sad and dispirit. As what's going with Romeo, his love for Rosaline makes him sweep, groan, and heart-breaking. Everyone, the Man of the Party, the man we all know - er, knew.. - and loved, Sir Mercutio! The character that I chose from Romeo and Juliet is, of course, Mercutio. Mercutio is the friend of Romeo and Benvolio and the relative of Prince Escalus. He is extremely relevant to the plot, for Mercutio provoked Juliet's cousin, Tybalt, causing the two to fight. "Come, sir, your passado." (III.i.80). Romeo attempted to intervene which gave Tybalt leverage to reach around him and stab Mercutio. The death of his friend angered Romeo, who then fought and killed Tybalt, thus granting him exile to Mantua and leaving the rest of the plot to fall into place.…

For the argument “Didn’t Tybalt only did one thing wrong?” this is true, but it led to a huge domino effect. I feel that him wanting to fight Romeo knocked the first domino over, but didn’t start the effect. It is like when someone tries to knock the dominoes down, but it doesn’t knock the rest over and you have to try again at the second domino. When he killed Mercutio it started the reaction that lead to the second domino to fall, which led to the downfall of all the rest of the dominos.…

Tybalt wanted to fight Romeo and started calling him a villain and other things like that. When he was calling him that Romeo didn’t lose his cool or anything, he just stays calm and tells Tybalt he doesn’t want to fight. Tybalt says “No better term than this: thou art a villain.”(3.1.57-63) That is when Tybalt gives his reason he wants to fight Romeo. When Tybalt kills Mercutio that’s when Romeo loses it and that is the reason Juliet faked her death. And after Romeo finds out that’s when he wants to kill himself also. Tybalt had a very big impact on the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.…

Six deaths in less than a week. There were many tragedies in the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. In the story, the main characters Romeo and Juliet take their lives as ‘star-crossed lovers’, along with many other deaths such as Mercuttio, Tybalt, Lady Montague, and Paris. The story begins in Verona Italy with the feud between Montagues and Capulets. The story then goes into detail about the feud and introduces Juliet to Romeo. As the story continues, Romeo and Juliet are wed and many deaths occur. Romeo is exiled and runs away to Mantua. Romeo returns to find Juliet ‘dead’ from a sleeping potion and takes his own life to be with her. Juliet awakens from her spell to find Romeo dead beside her, and takes her own life in response. In the end the families, both with losses, end their feud and make statues of the other’s child in honor. Since the release of the play, many people have wondered: who is most at fault for the tragedy that is Romeo and Juliet. Some blame Balthazar, other blame Romeo or Juliet themselves. The evidence reveals that the families are at fault for their own losses, because the families have brought nothing but anger, grief, and mischief to Verona.…
