The Egyptian Antiquities Museum is located in Cairo, Egypt and contains over 120,000 relics. The British Museum is located in London, United Kingdom and houses the largest collection of Egyptian relics outside of the Egyptian Antiquities Museum in Cairo. Combined, both museums have over 200,000 artifacts spanning more than 11,000 years. There are several similarities in artifacts from both museums. A closer examination reveals such similarities. Among the many artifacts that both collections contain, statues of pharaohs are common. Among the statues found in the Egyptian Antiquities Museum one can find the statue of Khafre (Fourth Dynasty), Akhenaten (Eighteenth Dynasty), and Thutmose III (Eighteenth Dynasty). The British Museum holds statues of Sunusret III (Twelfth Dynasty), and Amenhotep III (Eighteenth Dynasty). These statues show a common relic between both museums.
One such important artifact is the Rosetta Stone which is currently located at the British Museum. This stele is very significant because it was the missing link that helped translate ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. Another find, which is at the Egyptian Antiquities Museum, is the Merneptah Stele. This relic is significant because, if it is translated correctly, it holds the earliest reference to Israel from ancient Egypt. Finally, other such objects that are common in both museums are funeral masks. The Egyptian Antiquities Museums hold the Gold Mask of Tutankhamun. This mask is made of 10kg of gold.
