In the coming hours, Americans will be casting their vote for president of the United States. The election was between Democrat, James Bakersfield, and Republican, Clare Thomlin. Clare was the CEO of a weapons manufacturing company, who has had more than a dozen scandals in her campaign.…
It is hard for me to imagine the barriers black composers and lyricist had to face in Broadway in the early 20th century, but Eubie Blake and Noble Sissle hit them head on and has earned himself a spot in Broadway’s long history. James Hubert Blake was born Baltimore in 1983 to former slaves. He grew up listening to rag time music, which would be his mark on Broadway. He started playing a pump organ at home before the age of 5, and would being playing professional by the time he was 6. During this time, he would play at brothers and saloons until he had finally secured a steady job at the Goldfield Hotel in Baltimore. In 1915, Blake and Noble Sissle began a long career of working together extensively, forming a partnership that would last for 60 years.…

Brentwood, Tennessee is a suburb south of Nashville. Home to many upper middle-class families, Brentwood is identifiable by the seemingly endless supply of neighborhoods containing multi-story homes, manicured landscapes, and Mercedes Benzes. It is very easy to pin stereotypes of affluence to the people, places, and customs of Brentwood, but I would not have wished to grow up in any other place.…

The Rebellions of 1837 were a pair of Canadian armed uprisings that occurred in 1837 in response to frustrations in political reform and ethnic conflict. The rebellions occurred in two Canadian colonies: Lower Canada and Upper Canada. The Lower Canadian Rebellion was a larger and more sustained conflict pursued by French and English Canadian rebels against the British colonial government. The Upper Canadian Rebellion was an unsuccessful uprising in Upper Canada against the Family Compact. Although the Upper and Lower Canadian Rebellions differed, they shared the common goal of establishing a responsible government. In November 1837 the Lower Canadian Rebellion began…

When we speak of revolutionary leaders we immediately think of Mandela, Malcolm, King, Lincoln, Kennedy, and Gandhi. They are wonderful examples of virtue, but others immediately come to my mind like Ramón Emeterio Betances, Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos, Lolita Lebron, and the Young Lords. The Young Lords have had a great impact on the lives of Hispanic Americans and on my life personally. The Young Lords instilled a sense of Puerto Rican pride during a time when Puerto Ricans were looked at with great racial, cultural and language discrimination as well as economic exploitation. They changed the sanitation standards on inner city streets, started free children’s…
