“The thirty seven year wait is over, American Pharoah is finally the one, American Pharoah has won The Triple Crown!” The Triple Crown is one of the oldest and most historically valued sports events in America. The Triple Crown takes place as a series of three events including the Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes. If the same horse wins all three of the races, they are recognized as a triple crown winner. Out of the twelve winners all time, the most significant winner was Secretariat in 1973. He had the most convincing win by more than 20 lengths. Fans adored Secretariat so much that they made a movie about him. His races crown him as the best racehorse in history. The Triple Crown should clash with…
In the 90's it was very hard to find a fast pace food environment that could actually serve quality food, that’s where Chipotle began to stand out. Bringing authentic and fresh Mexican ingredients is one of the many things that makes chipotle stand out to their competition. Chipotle meats are fresh, never frozen, left over night to marinate and grilled fresh every hour .They raise their cattle in humane conditions which help the quality of their meat, from my experience at dinging in this restaurant it always carries a peculiar taste as compared to other restaurants who have added hormones to enhance flavors. You can taste the unadulterated flavors in their vegetables, salsas, and guacamole versus the genetically modified condiments provided at other establishments. Chipotle is one of the few places that thrive on quality and quantity in a fast food environment yet still guarantying fresh flavorful organic ingredients. For those who are now a part of the health conscious wave this is without a doubt the best option for not only them but for…
Tex-Mex cuisine started hundreds of years ago. It started when the Spanish and Mexican recipes were combined with the American Recipes(American/United States). Tex-Mex is a Mexican and Texan Cuisine combine, obviously you one can tell by the name. Geographically they are located right next to each other. Mexico is on the southern border of Texas. Texas being one of the largest of the states in the United States. Texas Cuisine is considered one of the only native cuisines in the United States. The Tex-Mex restaurants first came around outside the southwest in the cities with a lot of Mexican people. The border between Mexico and America is one the greatest culinary areas, All the different people that have migrated to this have created an atmosphere rich with culture. From the regions of South Texas between San Antonio and El Paso, the cuisine has changed very…
The fast food, or quick service restaurant industry (QSR), represents approximately 200,000 restaurants and $155 billion in sales in the U.S. alone, they are one of the largest segments of the food industry (Hoovers, 2011). This segment of the restaurant industry is “highly competitive and fragmented… number, size and strength of competitors vary by region, market and even restaurant. All of these restaurants compete based on a number of factors, including taste, quality, speed of service, price and value, name recognition, restaurant location, customer service and the ambience and condition of each restaurant” (Chipotle, 2010).…

To begin with, Mexican cuisine in Texas started out with a famous dish called Tex-Mex. Moreover, in Debbie Gold’s “Women in Business” she states, “the name for Tex-Mex was originally the nickname for the Texas Mexican railway, which was located in Southern Texas” (Gold 42). In addition, Tex-Mex is the “mix of Mexican culinary traditions encountered by pioneers coming to Texas from other parts of the United States and other countries and bringing in their own flavors and cooking traditions with them” (Gold 40). Above all, Tex-Mex is not really an authentic Mexican cuisine but because Americans associate it as one Mexican cuisine restaurants embrace it. Likewise, Tex-Mex is an interesting choice to choose from when deciding where to eat out mainly…
Eating is a fundamental activity. Food, itself, is a major component of survival, for without it there would be no life on this earth. Throughout the evolution of man, it has come to have a greater importance with multiple significances to human beings. In fact, it has become a defining factor for families, classes, and cultures all through history. Hispanic societies are no exception. Furthermore, Hispanic women writers have written articles, screenplays, and novels using cuisine as their driving force. A great example is Laura Esquivel’s novel, Like Water For Chocolate.…
When speaking to the customers of Jitterbug Diner, their expectations were very strait forward. The same buzzwords came up over and over; friendly atmosphere, timely service, and quality food. These are traits that everyone would expect when going out for a meal at a restaurant. The first customers I spoke to were finishing up their first visit to the diner. Their initial visit expectations were heavily influenced by an event they had participated in, Taste of Kelowna. They actually never got to sample the food from Jitterbug because the lineup was so long outside the diner. They assumed from this that the food must have been great if it was worth waiting for. They also expected the service would be friendly,…
Miguel and his family left their home country of Chihuahua, Mexico for safety, better opportunities and to be free of religious persecution. (Why did you and your leave your home country?) Miguel’s parents had been talking about leaving their home land for a while, they were concerned with the escalating violence because of the drug war, an increase of kidnappings and homicides, made them feel unsafe not only in their own home but anywhere in the city. The family also practiced the Protestant faith which did not blend well with the locals, the majority of whom were Catholic. They felt they could not openly talk about or practice the religion of their choice. So in 2004 Miguel’s parents decided it was time to move the family to the U.S.…

When I hear the word Mexico, images of mouthwatering enchiladas and quesadillas come to mind. And of course, salsa. Salsa may not seem very unique, but its history stretches back to the time that the Aztecs ruled Mexico (Dumois). The Aztecs used salsas and guacamoles to transform “something as tasteless as white chicken breast into a real delicacy, worthy enough to be served on the most sophisticated and elegant table” (Dumois). Salsa is made from ingredients that are already in Mexico, such as red tomatoes, onion, garlic, chiles, and cilantro, also known as coriander (Dumois) (Sherril C.). Some salsas are based on little green tomatoes, or tomatillos, and sometimes even chocolate is used to make certain salsas (Dumois). Mexican cuisine has a wide variety of influences due to the colonization during the Age of Exploration and trade between people from various countries and continents. In a word, Mexican food is a result of several, diverse culinary influences and therefore a mixture of varied cooking styles and ingredients in various cultures (Manohar).…

Mexico has 31 states and a Federal District and each has its own unique cooking techniques and different traditional dishes according to their geography. The Mexican gastronomy was greatly influenced by the Spanish when Hernan Cortez arrived in 1521 and by the French During the 1800’s. The Aztecs and Mayan had their own ways of cooking and unique ingredients that we still have on our tables today. Mexico’s cuisine has being influence by different cultures, it has a huge repertoire but the tex-mex style predominates and many people in the US pensive it like that.…
Food represents each culture; it is a staple and a way to identify each distinct location on the map. Mexican cuisine has been praised by countless critics for its variety of flavors, textures and colors. Just as well, its oftentimes spicy dishes have inspired other parts of the world, influencing their use of ingredients, one clear example being the state of New Mexico. The Mexican state of Chihuahua and New Mexico share borders, so it is only natural that influence when it comes to food will leap over back and forth. Just as New Mexico has gained inspiration from its neighbor, a unique style has been kept within. New Mexican food has gathered its own flavor throughout the years despite clearly being inspired by Mexican cuisine; when…
