This shows what her father thinks about going to college, and especially a girl going to college. Her father is not a very nice man. He is constantly rude and expects way to much of her. He thinks she should be working all day and giving him money to help pay for things. Thankfully, through out the story we find that Marissa has other people that are willing to help support her dreams by giving her advice and helping her prove to herself that she really is capable of doing anything she puts her mind to. One person who really helped Marissa was her teacher. This was touching to me because one day I am going to be a teacher and I want to help those students who do not get the support from home. I want to show them like Marissa’s teacher, that they can do what ever they put their mind to. Everybody is worth something in this
