Review of Literature;
Educator & International Students
For many, cultures it turns out to be a challenge to understand and also for cultural change its even more an difficult task during the process of cultural transformation, and misunderstandings may occur McNeil (1999) . Also, some misconceptions that others have about certain cultures can be the root and cause of the misunderstanding. Each student identifies themselves with a distinct group, generally race, religion or class. It has always been a challenge for educators to fully comprehend the cultural identities of students as Embong & Abdul Rahman (2011 has explained that race, culture, language and the importance of identity in education fields in one of education language is second to identities and culture. Race is entitled to which work Embong & Abdul Rahman work demonstrates on challenging that is for educators to comprehend with their student’s cultural identities. I will mention some of the causes of educators and students as well as the problems that are concerning identity in schools with international students.
No matter what country these students travel to, discomfort, loneliness, frustration and dissatisfaction may occur when one lives other than their own. According to McNeil (1999) cross with struggling and feelings the psychological forms of “ cultural adjustment, migrant may fail to their tasks and, depending on their self depression to become factors, personality. This article emphasizes the difficulties individuals who live in countries other than their own homeland in Mexico. So, what might be the outcome for these psychological experiences? How do international students manage to adopt into American new culture? Since these students are spending a significant part of their live in the United States, are they also forming their own identity during these years in the U.S? As a result, will these international students become caught up in a crisis? Educators hope to find answers to these critical questions as we proceed with this research Rodriguez (2010).
Educators acknowledge the fact that individuals have their own definitions of the term identity crisis. definition, which according to Rodriguez, is a time of intensive analysis and exploration of different ways of looking at others. New culture can be very stressing which can harm a someone’s mental health due to the deep depression. University Professors suggests that international students are even “a investigate to done study a example, For others. Than those vulnerable more to Indicate model” crime of fear behavior that international students are in fact at risk of facing various issues within new culture and identity in society. (McNeil, 2010). We as American citizens can infer that international students are frightened and scared of new environment, students who took the survey and interviewed also feel like they didn’t belong according study: Results show that young and female Mexican or Latin students express higher levels of fear of discrimination than those who live within the united states (Embong & Rahman (2010) older and male counterparts. Mexican students, who report high levels of discrimination and feel as they’re now welcome or have difficulties to make friends.
How can university professors make international students feel comfortable in classroom or school environment ?
Though discrimination is everywhere, there are many ways to approach it McNeil (1999). University professors shouldn’t ignore discrimination when they observe it an a classroom. These schools should and will provide a safe and secure environment for them McNeil (1999). Meanwhile, teachers should encourage multicultural education. Again, recent studies showed how important it is to promote multicultural education in the U.S as it becomes a multi-cultural race society. This will prevent international students who have ever experience mistreatment. International students has encounter issues from culture in the U.S and in within their own culture and many end up living in two different worlds. This is where the identity crisis plays a big role because they are lost and wondering about who they really fit in with. International students face hardships while trying to balance both cultures on a daily basis. They try to be as American as they can be while dealing with the host culture but they play a 19 different role to interact with their friends or family who they share similar values and are from also from their country or even at times, they even feel most comfortable with their fellow international students. International students indicated over and over again that there is temptation while trying to stay true to their culture, identity, religion, parents, and peers. Moreover, some international students feel torn between the two cultures and never knew which one to choose. They can’t find a way to balance them by accepting both heritages. In fact, after staying here for some time, international students tend to relate to the host culture more.
Forms of racial discriminations In International students
Most cases of racism that occurs in Mexico, as educators shall see from the survey report later are express racism.
The survey shows that most cases of experienced discrimination within minority groups are alarming in Mexico . In the US, Brown, L (2006) reports that some health problems like bipolar disorder is highly associated with impersonal discrimination as it leaves victims in fear state of danger. However, this will be in most common forms of racism like in every experience in society students report because of the their experience as a result of his/her color or racial backgrounds. racial discrimination for international students typically refers to discriminatory policies into organizational structures‖ (Brown (2006). These forms of discrimination is carried out within the form of convert racism. It’s more invisible than the interpersonal racism. This is why it’s also called indirect discrimination. Daniels, Jeannie (2013) that puts it directly to institutional practices. This always works in situation where institutions make their own laws but fails to take it into considerations for certain social and cultural aspects in modern society. For this discrimination to be fully institutional, it has to be triggered by social identity Lee, E
