The first reason the United States was justified in going to war with Mexico is because they were in desperate need of land. The U.S’s population was growing rapidly due to its increase in birth rate and immigration (Document E). This growing population meant there wasn't enough land for everyone to live comfortably, which meant having to move west. The U.S would not just take land if they did not intend to put it to good use. there. This was one of the biggest reasons why the U.S was pressured to move West.
The second reason the United States was justified in going to war with Mexico is because their economic depressions made people thrive to live in frontier areas. Frontier land was inexpensive or free, which is why people wanted to move there (Document E). Frontier land was also considered as uncharted territory, which is why the U.S thought it would be okay to move down there. Their economic depressions included heavy debts which caused a number of banks to fail. There was also a decrease in employment and crops. People in the U.S did not want to deal with all of these bad things happening, which started to pressure the U.S to move west.
The third reason the United States was justified in going to war with Mexico is because there was better opportunities for buying/selling and individual self-advancement.
Most people would say that the U.S was not justified in going to war with Mexico because they were uninvited and basically attacked Mexico, however they were justified because they had real political reasons to do so. Frontier land created better opportunities for commerce (Document E). Commerce of course, was a big thing for most people in the U.S, which is a reason the U.S wanted to move into this uncharted territory. Individual self-advancement was also a reason that the U.S wanted to move into Texas. This helped people make themselves better in a way, it helped promote themselves for the better. All of this promoted economic growth, which was a good motivation to
move.
In conclusion, the U.S was justified to go to war with Mexico because of economic, social and political reasons. They were in desperate need of expansion.
