Mexico New Year Essay
New Years is a time of new beginnings for everyone. Americans celebrate by throwing parties, shooting fireworks, and making resolutions. All of these attributes of New Years are common to Americans, but New Years is not celebrated the same in Mexico. In Mexico certain rituals are performed to symbolize and welcome in the new year. In America New Years is a National holiday meaning schools, government buildings, and some businesses are closed. People celebrate and party the night before on New Year’s eve staying up till midnight to welcome the new year in. Many Americans also celebrate the new year by shooting off fireworks. On New Years many Americans set what they call resolutions. A resolution is a goal or change you want to happen in the new year. Many do not achieve their new year's resolutions ,but it is a tradition Americans look forward to every year (New Year’s Day) …show more content…
Mexican citizens welcome in the new year by performing rituals exclusive to their culture. One of these rituals is New Year’s Supper but before the supper the house must be completely cleaned. These rituals are said to bring good luck and profit for the new year. If one does not perform these annual rituals they are said to have fortune for the new year. (inside Mexico)
While the two cultures bring in the new year very differently there is a connection between the two holidays. The American new year and the Mexican new year both fall on the same day. The new year begins on the first day of January. Both countries share the same new year because they both use the Gregorian calendar.
