It explains their different lifestyles, customs, and views created two completely different cultures. One of the major differences is religion. In the section of Mexico and the World Fairs that I read, there was no mention of any religion whatsoever, but Beowulf often mentions both Christianity and Paganism, incorporating these religions into the story. Much of Beowulf’s strength is said to be due to God/the gods. This shows the reader that in England religion is much more important than it is in Mexico and that people claim most miracles or “unexplainable” events are thanks to God/the gods. The story from Mexico is also far more political than Beowulf, which leaves the audience to guess that there must have been many political conflicts during that time period in Mexico and it was a very relevant topic. This also lets us see how the Mexican culture is far more realistic than the English one which tends to be more romantic and filled with kings, dragons, adventures, and wealth. Because of the different time periods in which the stories were written, there are also many different views. Beowulf was written while a less advanced and far different culture existed, and Mexico and the World Affairs was written during a more recent time period. We can then expect that the cultures are far more different than they are similar, with Beowulf being more primitive and supernatural
