Professor XXXXXXXIntroduction Amanda Smith is an experienced accountant that gained an entrepreneurial spirit and decided to start her own accounting firm. The company, Smith’s Accounting and Tax Service started off well and began progressing in the right direction. I understand you left the interviewing and selection process to your administrative assistant, whom has no formal accountant training. I must ask you a question. What are Lisa’s qualifications to interview and select a certified public accountant? Your company is in its infancy and your failure to be involved with recruiting, selecting, and scrutinizing these major players in your organization are unacceptable. I recommend that until you develop this senior accountant in your firm that you are the individual to hire any personnel that will be involved in the complexities and legalize of accounting. Furthermore, I recommend that you follow the recommendations of the Small Business Administration (SBA) and develop job descriptions for all of your employees. The SBA states that besides describing the job, job descriptions attract potential employees, talk about the major areas of the job, outline what will be expected if the person is hired, and offer a starting point for salary negotiations (http://www.sba.gov/content/writing-effective-job-descriptions).
