Week 4 Assignment 2 Case Analysis /Scenario
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, and recordkeeping and child labor standards for both full time and part time workers in the United States. The FLSA establishes minimum wage and state and local government rules of employment. Exempt employees are employees who do not have to be paid overtime.
The executive exemption is for those employees who manages an enterprise or direct the work of at least two other employees, with the authority to hire and fire employees. The administrative exemption applies an employee who assists in managing or running a …show more content…
The Fair Labor Standards Act changed child labor and stated what jobs were not endangering to 14 to 18 year olds. This changed child labor significantly and was a direct result or injuries that were common for children in certain work environments.
The modifications to the FLSA in substantially broadened the definitions of exempt employees. Prior to 2003 exemptions were determined on a case-by-case basis. Some of the changes imposed created conflict with unions because many employees were not getting paid overtime. The changes were made over the union 's objections. I believe that proposed changes for the FLSA will improve the working conditions in accordance with the demands of the time. There are many everyday essentials that are going up in price and people still have the same minimum wage of $7.25. There will be controversy with the changes proposed just like there was much controversy with the FLSA changes on exempt employees and overtime wages. I do believe however that the proposed changes are for establishing more realistic employment aid and opportunities for the future
