Leadership can be defined as encouraging other people to succeed, and also to leave a strong influence on them when everything is said and done. There have been many leaders in history whether in sports or in world history. One person who was an excellent leader is Michael Jordan. Jordan is a professional basketball player who played for the Chicago Bulls during the 80’s and 90’s and is referred to as one of the greatest athletes of all time. Michael Jordan’s competitive nature and strong leadership qualities like courage and loyalty enabled him to make everyone on the court a better player and a better person, and also helped him win 6 NBA championships. Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born in Brooklyn New York on February 17th 1963 (Michael Jordan Bio). Michael is the fourth of five children born from James and Deloris Jordan, James a mechanic and Deloris a bank teller (Morissley 1). So the Jordans moved to Wilmington, North Carolina where Michael would play his high school basketball career (Morissley 1). Little do many people know is that Michael Jordans first love was baseball a sport which Michael took up in his early years in Wilmington while still in elementary school, not basketball (Morissley 2). However Michael was truly a gifted natural born basketball player according to his father James, “one day, god was sitting around and decided to make the perfect basketball player. He gave him a little hardship early to make him appreciate what he would earn in the end and called him Michael Jordan” (Morissley 1) There were times when Michael had to face adversity. As a sophomore in high school, Jordan got cut from his varsity basketball team (Jordan and Veraducci 58). After he got cut Jordan explains that it was the worst feeling he ever had in his life and he worked so hard in the off season to become a starter on

Earvin Johnson Jr. was born on August 14, 1959, in Lansing, Michigan, Magic Johnson dominated the court as one of America's best basketball players for 12 years. If there was one aspect of Johnson's game that awed people the most, it was his brilliant passing skills. He dazzled fans and dumbfounded opponents with no-look passes off the fast-break, pinpoint alley-oops from half-court, spinning feeds and overhand bullets under the basket through triple teams. When defenders expected him to pass, he shot. When they expected him to shoot, he passed. Johnson did all of this while maintaining a childlike enthusiasm born of a pure love of sport and competition. Beyond all the money, success and fame, Johnson was just happy to be playing basketball. He retired from the LA Lakers in 1991 after revealing that he had the AIDS virus. He has since then built up a business empire called Magic Johnson Enterprises, which includes real estate holdings, several Starbucks franchises, and movie theaters. Magic Johnson is also a proud part-owner of the Las Angles Dodgers. He signed his contract with the Dodgers before the 2012 season has started and he seems very excited to help this…
