Michael Packnett Case Study
Mr. Michael Packnett and Dr. Robert Godley,

I wish to express my sincerest appreciation in being the recipient of the Michael Packnett Parkview Physicians scholarship. I was beyond words upon learning of receiving the generous scholarship. Thank you very much. Fort Wayne has not only been my home since I was 7 years old, but now it has cultivated and molded my medical knowledge and career. I’ve had unbelievable experiences and opportunities the last 3 years at the Fort Wayne campus. I hope that I will be able to come back and pay it forward as an OB/GYN as this has been the strongest, most compassionate medical community I’ve ever been a part of. Currently, I’m working with a fellow classmate on establishing an OB/GYN student interest

I chose to apply to WVU SOM because of the university’s large social role and association with the state. I believe that I can contribute to WVU SOM’s communal ties to help foster change and improve healthcare on both a community scale and a state scale. I believe WVU will offer the opportunities to serve rural areas that lack access to health care, an issue I hope to also improve in my local community. I am interested in learning about the university’s and state’s plan to address underserved populations. Moreover, I believe WVU SOM’s program will provide me the tools to teach patients about their health. I believe transferring knowledge to the community will be the first step in encouraging and changing to healthy lifestyles.…

When considering my attributes as a medical school applicant, I am convinced that I would be a great fit for the Creighton University School of Medicine community. As mentioned in my previous response, I am from a Christian background and intend to continually pursue my relationship with God throughout my years in medical school. Seeing as though Creighton is founded in a religious tradition, my belief in God makes me an excellent example for the reinforcement of the Catholic tradition. My heart has been set on the pursual of good and helping others since a very young age which has led me to a career in medicine, a character trait that fits in well with Creighton University’s endeavor to improve the human condition. As well as my religious background and heart to serve others, I place a lot of emphasis on self-discipline and strive for excellence in all aspects of my life.…

With less than a year left of school, I’ve been applying myself in so many different areas in order to better myself as a future doctor. Volunteering, shadowing and extra-curricular activities have all been part of my doings. I've got to admit these past three and a half years have been, by far, extremely interesting and challenging. I have been learning about life, health, body systems and their functions. It is fascinating to learn about the biological and chemical make-up of the human body and the countless processes that are occurring constantly within us. I am looking forward to entering medical school to learn in an even greater detail about the many different interactions with our body systems.…

I would like to immensely thank each and every one of the donors for the Marine Corps Scholarship for providing the funds for not only myself, but many others, to allow us to achieve a post-secondary education. My goals for residency are simple – to continuously learn in order to educate and heal. Although I have been involved in the community in various ways for many years, I am truly excited to start giving back to society from a different perspective – that of a physician, of a person’s first stop in their most vulnerable of times. Family Medicine is a broad field that will challenge me in many ways, but I am ready to enhance my knowledge in a program that fosters learning through a supportive, team approach where patients and their futures are the greatest concerns.…

Finally the date for my second trip to Orlando is here, this time it was a different feeling taking the drive. I actually look forward to getting a firsthand looks on how UCF Student Health Services Center Health Information department operates different from a regular hospital HIM department. It was also more exciting for me to visit my school for the first time; as an online student, I had no to reason to visit the school prior to this visit. As you walked into the building it is just what I imagine it to be; a few windows with glass screen like a doctor’s office. Inside the building my fellow classmates gather with Thea Reyes, Academic Advising Coordinator for our HIIM program as we waited for Dr. Mary Schmidt-Owens, Associate Director, Medical Health Administration to arrive and give us a tour of the facility.…
