The bombing of Hiroshima killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people. “There were the shadowy forms of people, some of whom looked like walking ghosts. Others moved as though in pain,” (Hachiya). In the quote, Hachiya is explaining the suffering and agony these people were going through at the time. He saw first
hand how the bomb affected the lives of innocent people, and he showed the world what he saw to make sure the world remembers the tragedy of Hiroshima.
Even the survivors still experienced a substantial event that caused pain and desolation. “I tried. It was all a nightmare - my wounds, the darkness, the round ahead.” (Hachiya). Even though he was a survivor and he persevered in the end, Hachiya still suffered very deeply and still went through plenty of pain. Hachiya wrote about his pain and suffering not to get pity from the world, but to show everyone how Hiroshima affected real people and not only killed thousands of people, but also to show how even the survivors went through so much.
Hiroshima was a devastating event, but still needs to be remembered over 50 years later to show the world the tragedy that comes from violence and weapons. Hiroshima gave us the motivation to be better and to grow our communities for the better. Now we have learned from our mistakes and hopefully won’t have to deal like another event such as Hiroshima.
